We just got married on August 9, and I thought I would pass along an idea I had gotten from someone else that worked wonderfully for us. My husbad has two teenage sons and I have two adult daughters. They have had a wide range of responses–initially– to our marriage, from enthusiasm to resentment. Happily, now that it has happened, everything seems to have come together and they are all getting used to referring to each other as siblings. Although they all stood up with us during the ceremony, we knew one of my daughters and both boys did not want to have to speak or be directly acknowledged. At the reception, instead of having one large cake, we invited them to each pick a cake, so we had five cakes on the table, one from “us” and one for each of the kids. They each picked something very different, so you could see the range of personalities coming together. Our friends and family loved it, and the kids all enjoyed being recognized in a fun way.
