That’s just the style of dress that you chose.  Just make it fit the best it can.

I’m not quite sure why you’re so worried about your hips! You have a stunning figure!

First of all, you look amazing in your dress.  I did have a similar lace mermaid gown, and wanted to mention something that my seamstress fixed at my second fitting.  y dress had a lace overlay and satin underlay.  The seamstress noticed and pointed out that the lace stuck out a bit right where the dress hit my hips.  It didn’t need to be taken in more to make it tighter, but that part needed to be altered. It was a really small change that made a huge difference in how I looked in my dress. I hope that makes sense, it is a bit hard to describe.  But maybe you could check and see if that is happening with your dress as well

@indecisivebee:  Your inspiration pic doesn’t look like a mermaid to me.  It’s a trumpet.  It curves in then poofs out higher on your legs than a mermaid does.  You’re seeing more curves on your own dress because it’s pinned more like a mermaid.

@indecisivebee:  I like the way your dress looks unaltered! I don’t think your hips look big at all. You look all of two pounds heavier in it versus that other dress you tried on, but it’s a difference of the material I think. One layer of satiny stuff versus satin with lace over it.

I think making your dress tighter/more mermaid will only accentuate your hips even more in a way that you won’t want — that’s the problem I’m having. When the dress kind of flows, it masks the hips a bit. When it’s glued to you, there’s no masking anything. It’s all out there for the world to see.

In terms of making the dress look a little more flowy — maybe if you had a layer of tulle or whatever’s underneathe taken out? That should do the trick.
