My Fiance and I recently visited Block Island and loved the Atlantic Inn. Now I am torn between having our 130-ish person, September 2012 wedding there or at the Ocean Edge Resort in Brewster, MA. Has anyone had or been to a wedding at the Atlantic Inn?
I like the idea of having the Inn to ourselves all weekend, but I’m not sure how I feel about the interior/dining area. It might be too shabby chic for me and I worry about splitting people up for diiner (and also having dancing outside).
Speaking of dancing, there is an Island Ordinance that states all music has to be off by 9pm. That would require us to move the Dj equipment inside, but I am having a hard time imaginging where we would dance inside.
Any help would be very much appreciated!!

I have not ben to the Inn, but my Fiance proposed to me on Block Island and I LOVE it there. I don’t know about that place but a wedding on Block Isalnd would be so fun and beautiful!

@mewood24:just remember that getting to Block Island will be a little more difficult for your guests than getting to Brewster…

I would have LOVED to have our wedding on Block Island! I have never stayed at the Atlantic Inn but it does look nice and it’s out of the main town area, so it’s more private than say, the Spring House. Yes, any place on the island really you will have that “shabby chic” style, there aren’t any super fancy places, but it definitely has its appeal and BI is so unique and beautiful. My favorite wedding spot on the island was the Sullivan House, a little different flavor than the Atlantic Inn, the views are amazing. September is probably the best time to have a wedding there, the crowds are gone, the weather is beautiful, and your costs will be less than in the summer. That being said, there is the whole difficulty of getting to the island factor to consider, and September is technically hurricane time so even if there isn’t a hurricane hitting the coast, if there’s one churning offshore that can cause a lot of rough surf and cancel the ferries. Just something to consider. Also check out what the minimum night stays are for guests that want to stay over on the island – in August I know it’s a 3 night minimum on weekends and the room rates are the highest, so that was out of the question for us as obviously that’s asking too much of our guests. But September is probably a different story.
I’ve never heard of the Ocean Edge Resort in Brewster so I can’t say whether that’s a better option. Just thought I’d give you my 2 cents on BI. Good luck with whichever you choose!

My wedding was at the Spring House on Block Island last June – cannot recommend Block Island highly enough!! Yes, a few guests may be dissuaded from attending, but those who come will really embrace the whole experience.
I’m sure I’m responding a bit too late, but I wanted to express my enthusiasm for Block regardless. 🙂
