As long as you stay in the tourist areas you should be fine. From what it seems like to me it’s a lot of native Mexicans being abducted and killed by their fellow citizens. Also there have many reports of Mexican Americans being abducted and killed when they visit their families in Mexico. But I don’t live there so I’m not sure.

Plus there a lot of bees who go to Mexico and they’re fine. The drug cartel thrives on tourism so they are not going to do anythign to scare tourist away.

I think the media tends to make a bigger deal out of people with blonde hair and blue eyes getting kidnapped in those areas – it makes for a better story “Holiday-maker/girl next door gets kidnapped while on holiday” as opposed to “Local person in Mexico is kidnapped”

What? Just stay in the touristy areas, you’ll be absolutely fine.

I’m blue-eyed, fair-skinned, and had very blonde hair when I went to Mexico. And i was 18- prime abduction age. Everyone there was very nice, and nobody even looked at me the wrong way. 😛

I did have one Mexican man call me ‘Barbie’, though. LOL.

You will be completely fine! As long as you’re not walking by yourself in a ghetto area at midnight. Those cruises take you to very touristy places where there’s hardly any crimes beyond pick pocketing.

@SweetCherryPie:  I’m blond haired/green eyed and I’ve traveled through Mexico and lived in Latin America… It’s FINE. White people are unnecessarily paranoid about this kind of thing. You have to be careful, of course, but it’s FINE. Stay away from shady areas. Don’t get into unmarked taxis/cars with strangers. Don’t leave your drink unattended. Stick with your husband. Don’t flash your huge shiny diamond jewelry in crappy areas. Be careful and aware. JUST LIKE YOU WOULD AT HOME.

You’ll probably get hisses and cat calls and GUAPA MI REINA MI AMOR MI VIDA CHELA CHELA MACHA RUBIA BONITA… ignore it and it’s fine. It’ll be less intense if you’re with a man who holds your hand.

@LadyElva:  +1. Young hot white chick goes missing and it’s an international emergency. Mexicana goes missing and… wait, that happens all the time (case in point: Juarez) and the media more or less sweeps it under the rug unless someone with money/someone exciting gets involved.

No worries, I’m blonde/bue eyed and always make it back in one piece. As long as you don’t try and buy drugs then you will be fine.

I’ve been on 9 cruises to that area (last one two years ago). Yes, bad things happen sometimes but mostly they don’t. Just be aware, book your tours/excursions through the cruiselines and don’t venture off on your own. (I’m a blue eyed blonde)

You will be fine, just stay on the resort/ tourist areas.

Also, to be honest, most of the abductions that happen in Mexico actually happen to other Mexicans/locals.

You’ll be fine. Follow the same logical cautions that you would at home. The blonde hair/blue eyed thing isn’t really a thing. You’re just a tourist.

You should probably wear brown colored contacts and a dark wig/and or hat.
