In a previous post I asked for suggestions for makeup and I shared a rather overdone trial I had experienced with a MAC counter professional and now I’m back with my own trials. I took many of the suggestions that were listed in my last post and I chose some purples and greys. One set I bought was called lavender smokes and the other velvet crush. I tried lavender smokes first:
I think I still went too heavy on the eyeliner, but I will definitely keep practicing with the liquid liner I bought. It’s a new thing for me! Always used a pencil before. Then I cleaned my right eye only and applied the velvet crush. I honestly didn’t see much difference between the two once they were on, but maybe you all can.
lavender smokes on the left eye and velvet crush on the left. I also tried a new lipstick color.
Here are two close-ups of my eyes with the two different colors
1. velvet crush
2. lavender smokes
Yikes- seeing these up close show me how badly I need to get my eyebrows done!
So whaddya think?

@sparkleeyes: I can’t tell the difference when your eyes are open, but I prefer the crush better when your eyes are closed.

Your makeup is perfectly fine! It actually looks professionally done. That’s from a professional makeup artist- seriously.
Fix your brows and you’ll be set! Get them done professionally. From a distance they look thicker than up close. But bring in some “ideal brow” pictures to a professional, and it will totally complete the look!
Your skin is great. To enhance the lips, find a concealer that matches you perfectly. Get a teeny tiny concealer brush (any, seriously) and line the outside of your lips with your concealer after lipstick is applied. It will make your lips pop so much!
ETA because I have nothing better to do on a Sunday night:
Your eyes are naturally downward sloping (NOT A BAD THING). If you want to perk them up and enhance them more, change the shape of your wing. As you get towards the outer corner of your eye, actually lift the line a bit from your lash line and have it more “up”. It will give your eyes a huge opening.
I think it’s fine regardless FWIW- I’m just quoting my beauty school teachings 🙂

I can only tell when your eyes are closed as well, but I like the crush one because it’s darker.
You mentioned you went to MAC, have you tried Sephora? I went for a trial at MAC and felt WAY overdone. I found out that you can book a FREE 1 hour lesson at Sephora (you need to book 48 hours in advance) and they do one half of your face then guide you to do the other half. I learned a lot and they helped me choose colours, too. I highly recommend giving it a try if you’re still undecided about DIY makeup!

agreed! i’m a mua myself and you look amazing. it looks professionally done. one tip would be if the liquid liner is too much you might try a gel liner as well. pretty much every line have them now. ive been using them since i worked for bobbi brown and they stay on throughout any tears!

Beautiful! I wish I had your skin!

@futuremrswitherspoon: Aww Thanks! It took me a long time to find a good balance for what worked with my skin, but now I’ll use nothing but Mary Kay’s Acne Gel and Sheer Cover Mineral makeup with their moisturizer. I never thought a product on an infomercial would work like they say it does, but I love it!
