Ok, so, RANT. I am normally very easy going when it comes to ANYTHING retail, I worked it for a year and a half, and it changes you. So, I was trying to be as patient as I could with Blue Nile, but lost in when they failed to realize they were making shopping for an engagment ring, something that is supposed to be fun, a NIGHTMARE.
I originally had a detailed band with diamonds and milgrain with a smaller center stone. Beautiful ring, fabulous. Problem? Milgrain resizing with a spinning ring, and the details were rubbing adjacent fingers raw. BOO. I tried to wear it off and on, but came to the conclusion a solitare would be best. And it meant a bigger stone, who would complain about that? I returned it, and insured it, with the shipping cost of about 30 bucks.
Waiting. I didn’t expect to send off my ring and have a new one magically appear, no, I am reasonable. I waited for the confirmation e-mail that they received it, and waited for it to pass the quality check, and for it to make it to inventory. So, I called in once it arrived to inventory, to start the exchange. They said they sent the funds back to the credit card company, their own, mind you, and to call and check to see if the funds were made available. Uh, ok. So I called, they had to record of my return, or my funds being out back to the account. They transfered me RIGHT back to where I started. They said it takes up to 10 days for the funds to be present. Why was I just told to call the company then? And why was I told they could push it through. They kept insiting I could just place a new order. Up my limit? Yes. If not, no sorry, don’t think I can buy a ring for 100 dollars. I asked if they could just make an exchange, they seemed not to understand just exxhaning, rather than returning my money, and starting all over. This concept couldn’t get through their thick skulls.
I hung up and instantly recieved an email stating it takes 3 days for the money to be sent back. Fine, whatever, I will wait. I checked my account when I woke up this morning, and the money was there, with an increase of a whopping 500 dollars. Gee, thanks.
MEANWHILE. Since the night I sent my original ring back, I would call every day to refresh the 48 hour hold a nice sized stone for a steal. They kept assuring me that it was on hold for me for when I was ready to place my order.
Once I found the setting I wanted to add to the stone this morning, I called in to order. They had no record of my hold, my information, my order number, and my diamond was SOLD. Why on Earth was I having it held then? And why would people keep lying to me? Seriously? They said I had to give full information to hold a stone, and each time they claimed to link it to my account. I was so furious, put I politetly said, “I’ll call back when I find a new stone then.”
No, “Sorry, we can help you find one close to its specs, and give you a discount. Or even a “Sorry we are making this so goddamn frustrating for you.” That is when I started to get fed up.
I found a halo setting I liked, and added a smaller new stone to it, to keep it in the 2000 range. I had the information and stock numbers ready to call and order. I called, and the lady kept asking for my order number. I had no order number, I was trying to order it! Once she realized she was making and order for me, she took all my information in, slowly, terribly, and with too many mistakes to cound. A-L-Y-S-S-A D-E-F-A-L-C-O. My lord. Sound it out. Once she got to the setting, She told me it was discontinued. I was looking RIGHT at it on my screen. I told her that, and she tried it again. Funny how it magically worked that time. Oh, and then trying to add the new stone.
Ok, Blue Nile shows you recently purchased rings made with that setting with varying stone sizes to give you and idea of what it would look like. I was ordering a .64 ct, and the gallery had anywhere from .4 to cts the size of my head. Ok, not really. But you get the idea. “Oh, we can only add a stone 1.1 or bigger to that setting.” I told her once again, “No, I am looking at it now, there is stones as small as .40 in this setting.” And she sounded like a broken record, telling me I was wrong. I literally said. “I give up,I am done” and hung up.
I sent a polite and calm e-mail to customer service, asking for this to be resolved and to be helped. My fiance came home for lunch really fast and I started to calm down a little. A ring isn’t what matters, I know, but I shouldn’t be on the verge of tears trying to order one I like!
I got back on, and tried to order the original setting, a solitare with leaf details, with once again, a new stone. It was a few dollars over my credit limit, so I would have to call and order. AGAIN. I calmed down, and dialed. The same damn lady picked up. I hung up again. Seriously?
They have a live chat option, which I asked if I could process my 2 cards like that. Of course not. What was I thinking? I, once again, politely explained how I was having and issue with one of the represenatives every time I have called this morning. She said she read my e-mail, and she explained how the setting was discontinued, just the ones that held smaller stones. Why was my lack of satisfaction NOT addressed? And what about my SOLD STONE? She also told me that she could have a lady other than one “Veronique” call me. I started to agree, and said how I just want to get this done and over with at this point, then the session closed. I went to start a new one, and I get the message, “This feature is not available right now. Available 11 am to midnight.” Then HOW was it just working at 9 am?
I placed the order, and within a few minutes, a polite young man asked for another card for payment. Where was this guy the whole time? Would have loved to speak to him, He added my second card, told me the ship date, asked if I had any other questions, and told me to have a great day. He is what stopped me from cancelling the whole order and cancelling the card. THANK YOU!
Long story short, if you know what you want, and just make a plain order, with disposable income, and unlimited time to play phone tag, and want to lose your orders and holds, go ahead and order a ring from them. Keep in mind, I was 100 % old church lady like nice and polite this entire time, and nothing was fixed nor do I feel any better about how this was handled. Except for the man who calls to say I didn’t pay enough, who you would normally think be the one with the attitude.
It is a nice excuse to have ice cream and a glass of wine at 10 am though.
