@octohands:  Wow that really sucks. I hope you end up with a nice ring after all this!!

This is the first time I’ve heard anything bad about Blue Nile.

I’ve had tons of customer service experiences like this over the years. With my phone company, with my heat company, etc. My friend just had an even worse experience than this (it lasted for months) with her bank and ended up switching banks. Seems like anytime you get too many cooks in the kitchen, this sort of thing happens.

I wonder if you can talk to a manager about all this and get some sort of discount. I’ve had nothing but excellent service from BN and I am sure if someone higher up got wind of this, they would love to try to make it up to you. Doesn’t hurt to ask. Now that you’ve written the whole thing out it might help if you send it to them.

You are more patient than I. Kinda makes me glad I told Fiance I didn’t want a ring from Blue Nile for fear of customer service issues.

Can’t wait to see some pics of it!

um…. i don’t think they did anything wrong here. admittedly, i couldn’t get through the whole thing, but ordering something from a website is not always a breeze. that’s life! sometimes it’s a giant f’ing pain in the ass.

i think you need to take a deep breath and exhale. perhaps the issue is that you did not know what you want. returning things via mail is not a straightforward process for something like this. my SO bought me a necklace from there last year and had nothing but great things to say.

I couldn’t get through the whole thing either.

My Fiance and I spent over two months in custom ring design hell.  We ended up cancelling the ring and bought one that we found while we were in said custom ring design hell.  It’s not anything like we were designing but it’s beautiful and I love it.

When you post with multiple boldings and italics all spread through your text, it’s really hard to read.

I’m sorry you’re having trouble with Blue Nile. The diamond issue can be a pain with them, because they don’t actually have all of those diamonds in a warehouse somewhere — it’s a diamond database used by numerous retailers, so anything you’re interested in has to be called in to their company for you to purchase. It also means that it’s easier for mistakes to get made with diamonds being reserved, etc.

Don’t beat yourself up on losing a great “deal” — there are no deals with diamonds. You always get what you pay for, so there was probably something undesirable about that one that you weren’t able to see (because they don’t provide pictures of the stones).

I’m sorry you had to deal with that. I’ve had nothing but good experiences from Blue Nile. With that being said, it sounds like you got a rep that wasn’t very good at her job. Sometimes that happens (and not just with Blue Nile).

I love my insurance/banking company, but when I was getting my new car for my totaled car, I had to contact them to get my new car loan. I had to go through 2 people to get someone who was competent with their job. This was a fluke, since I’ve NEVER had any issues with them but I was still frustrated. However, everything else related to my insurance claim was smooth sailing. So I’m just going to assume it was the person on the phone especially since all I did was hang up and re-dial for a new person.

Also when returning something like that via mail, it’s going to take some time for everything to go through and get credited. Glad everything worked out in the end though.

My fiance did not have any issues ordering my engagement ring and wedding band from Blue Nile.  They were great to work with.  I’m sorry your experience was so miserable.  I actually decided on another wedding band, so I need to return the one we have.  Hoping for the best on that one!

Ick. You are way more patient than me, and I worked retail at the mall, LOL.

As horrible as it sounds, sometimes you just gotta let ’em know you’re getting pissed off. It’s been my experience that the customer who complains the loudest gets their way. It’s wrong, and crappy policy, but that seems to be the way it is.

On the bright side, at least you finally got it sorted out! I can’t wait to see it when it comes in- I saw the stock photo of that ring that you were considering, and it’s *gorgeous*!
