Hey bees! After YEARS of going back and forth between my original rose gold solitaire and the classic Tiffany-style knife edge setting, I finally made the leap! I reset my stone into Blue Nile’s Nouveau Knife Edge setting. I have been eyeing this setting for years but was terrified of the squatty head and bulky prongs on the website. I asked BN to make the prongs as small and dainty as possible and to set the stone medium height and I could not be happier with the results. I was hoping for the best and expecting the worst. The band appears thin and knifey (razor sharp), the prongs are unobtrusive and the profile is actually more refined than I expected. It is delicate yet balanced. I am pleasantly surprised by the quality of the setting and even though the diamond is the same, it feels like a completely new ring. I almost feel as if I just walked out of Tiffany’s with one of their solitaires that I’ve always admired and I got to do so for under $500. 🙂
I hope this review is useful for those who are interested in a Tiffany-style setting. Pics do not do it justice and I can take better shots in natural daylight. Thank you for allowing me to share my excitement!

Looks great! Thanks for the review, I’ve always like the knife edge rings but haven’t tried one on

It’s beautiful! I love the thin band. Mind if I ask how big the center stone is? It’s a great size.

BridalMonkey2014 : Hey you!!!! Long time no see! Now we’re almost ring twins 😉 are you still going to wear your RG wedding band?

It looks beautiful! Would you mind attaching a photo of the side view, I’d love to see.
Also did you send your diamond into them? Were you nervous? Did you get shipping insurance or some sort of insurance for if they damaged it or anything?

BridalMonkey2014 : Your ring was beautiful before…we were almost ring twins but I love this alot too! Your skin looks great with both metal types! I’m also contemplating a reset! Are you still going to wear your rose band or what’s your plan for a band now? More pics please and congratulations on your beautiful reset!

Thank you all for the kind words! I was so 50-50 on rose gold solitaire vs classic Tiffany replica from the jump and it’s nice to enjoy the other side! I can barely recognize my diamond as the metal (it’s a white gold band with platinum prongs) makes the stone reflect differently but in a nice, icy way. I don’t think you can go wrong with either metal. It’s just a different look—cool vs warm.
emmalicious : Thank you! It’s a 1.6 on a loose 5 finger. 🙂
TheGridMonster : Hey, mama! I can’t believe Baby Grid is 6 months old! You’ll be planning the first birthday in no time!
Your ring is truly the bees’ knees! I haven’t figured out the wedding band situation. I ordered a sterling silver 2mm knife edge just to see the proportions and it’s fine, but I think I’m going to go for one (or two!) with a little more pizazzz 🙂 Will you indulge us with a picture of your set? I’d love to see the wb you chose!
redearthlady : Thank you so much! I was wondering how I would like the contrast from a warm to a cool metal and I’m glad it’s working out! I am leaning towards a white metal wb… maybe a 7 stone or a super thin eternity band, although I am a sucker Tiffany’s rose gold metro ring which I believe is a 1.5mm .2ctw-ish eternity.
bibliophilacticbee : I don’t notice it on my finger but as it is a pretty pointy knife edge, if you squeeze your fingers together on purpose, you will feel it and it kind of hurts (in a good way, jk!). I’m already used to the sensation so yes, I am comfortable wearing it. 🙂
lavendermist : Thank you! I wasn’t nervous sending it to BN as they provided a return shipping label which I assume was insured. I took some profile pictures for you below.
I’m happy to take another video of all angles if you guys would like that!

BridalMonkey2014 : Well I think either way you cant go wrong with a band. Your new solitaire is so classic it will go with anything. It’s amazing how much cooler your stone looks in the white metal. What color is your stone graded again? It’s amazing how having a warm metal is supposed to cool down the stone but in your case it almost seems opposite.

redearthlady : I didn’t know how to explain it but I totally agree with you! It does look cooler in the white metal. It’s an H with strong blue fluor so tint wasn’t an issue but I think it looks even better now. Maybe it’s the prongs. Who knows!
