Hi everyone – I’m new to the board so I’m really hoping all of you can help! The boyfriend and I have been looking for rings for what feels like an eternity (but ring shopping is always fun!) and I found a setting I’m in absolutely LOVE with on Blue Nile. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like they sell just the settings and I’m feeling a bit uneasy about buying a diamond we’ve never seen – has anyone else bought anything from BN? What was your experience and satisfaction with it? There’s a 30 day return-no-questions-asked-policy during which we planned to get it appraised but the thought of sending a ring back breaks my heart…what do you all think?

My e-ring and wedding band are from there. We always highly recommend this site and were completely satisfied. The value you get for your money is so much better than anywhere else we looked. No, you don’t see the diamond ahead of time, but it lets you choose any criteria you like, so that didn’t really matter. Btw, you don’t need to get it appraised – it comes with an appraisal and you can get insurance when you buy it.
If you search the forums there are other threads on BN where you can read about ppl’s experiences.

My e-ring is from there, and I have nothing but good things to say. The diamonds come with full certification paperwork and appraisal, they’re not going to try and swindle you. I second the comment to search “blue nile” on weddingbee – other threads will pop up w/ ring pics and people’s experiences dealing with the company. If you can get past the idea of ordering sight-unseen, online is really the best way to go… you’ll get a lot more diamond for your $ (and higher quality) versus if you buy from a regular mall retail store.

I have heard great things about it. My BFF got her ring from there. I got all my bridesmaids gifts from there and they are beautiful. I think Blue Nile also has a 14 day return policy but I would double check.

Ditto…my e-ring is from blue nile and I have the GIA certification to prove that my ring is exactly what he asked for. The best part is that you can return anything for 30 days! That made him feel more comfortable in case I didn’t like it. I think the prices are really reasonable too!

My e-ring and DH’s wedding band are both from Blue Nile, and we’re extremely happy with them. DH did a ton of diamond research before he bought my e-ring, and he was able to get the best price for the quality of diamond he wanted by getting it through Blue Nile. We also ended up exchanging the first wedding band we bought for him, and the return/exchange process was super easy.

My Engagement Ring is from Blue Nile and we are getting my wedding band from there as well. The paperwork that accompanied the ring was more than what we expected. They were very thorough.

My ring is from BN. I love the diamond and the sparkle it has. They offer great stones and the service is amazing.

My ring is from Blue Nile as My Fiance only pays everything he gets from the internet. It is absolutely fine and seems like a better deal then buying it in the store. You get to pick the diamond by every detail. I just wish he knew more about buying rings because he spent more on the setting than the diamond.

Somewhere on Blue Nile’s site it says that you can call them and get a jeweler to look at your diamond and tell you where the imperfections are and what the diamond looks like.

We got the center stone at Blue Nile and then had a custom setting made at a local jewelry store. Like you, I couldn’t find a setting that was me, even though they had some beautiful ones. My center stone is fabulous and I would highly recommend them!

My engagement ring is from Blue Nile too, and it is perfect! The center stone is pricess cut, clear, and one of the whitest stones I’ve ever seen! I just love it 🙂

We didn’t end up buying from BN, but I was impressed with the service (I called them a few times).
As I understand it, they have their signature line in-house and can examine the stones for you. The remainder is virtual stock – they don’t have the actual stones, just the GIA (or whatever) report. But they do have a nice return policy, so the option is there to order the stone, have it appraised/examine it yourself, and then return it if it’s not acceptable.
Whiteflash is the other online vendor that impressed me, but their responses via email were not as good. By phone they were quite helpful.
