Hello! I am new here but have looked through some threads over the past year or so. I am currently a waiting bee as I am not yet engaged but my boyfriend and I plan on doing so in a few years. We do not want a diamond and are looking at gemstones and moissanite. I do have what I believe is a blue topaz that I got from a mining company years ago. However, I messaged the company with a photo of the stone to see what it was and possibly the size to which they read it and did not reply (Facebook Messanger). Maybe I am overthinking this but now I feel unsure if the stone is real. Where could I go to see if it is legitament? Also I am wondering if Moissaniteco allows you to send in a stone to be set into one of their peices? I will attach a photo of the stone below. Thank you for any and all help!!

If you have a good local jeweller they will be able to weigh it and measure it, which would give you sizing. They may not be able to tell you with certainty what stone it is, but worth a try.
You can google “your city GIA jewellery” and a few hits should come up.

Is there not a jewler in town who can set that stone for you? I’ve read and seen on WB some pretty wonky settings and bad customer service from MoCo even IF they’ll set that stone for you I wouldn’t choose them.

A local jeweler can weigh and measure it. Depending on the jeweler and the stone, they may be able to identify it based on any inclusions. That said, I wouldn’t set that stone. The cut is poor and it has a large window. You can find much better gemstones online at very affordable prices.

We are both from VERY small towns were the closest jewler is at least 30-60 min away and are mostly the ones located in malls. I have scoped through semi mounts online and they are not at all appealing to me and very few that I found are for an oval.
Thank you for the info!!
Thank you for the info!!
I am not set on it, it is just a stone I have and thought there may be a possibility of being able to use it. As I said in my original post, it is from a lond time ago (at least 8 years) so I do not remember what they said it was and due to their lack of communication I am starting to question its authenticity. I appreciate your imput, it is very helpful to me and will help my boyfriend with what I want and am looking for. Although we are waiting until he gratuates college (May 2020) at the earliest, it is a current topic as many of our friends are getting engaged and are wondering what stones/cuts I like and want.

ok this makes much more sense to me! I’m from a large city and there are jewlers EVERYWHERE. Good luck with your search.
Might you consider Brilliant Earth? They have natural diamonds, lab diamonds, natural gemstones, lab gemstones, and moissenites. They also have some DREAMY settings. FH went custom for my ring from a local jewler in our city, but my brother got Future Sister-In-Law a ring from Brilliant Earth and it is to die for!!!
