Ok, so I am having an Oct 2011 wedding. I live in northeast PA, our ceremony will be outside among the fall foliage. Our reception will be indoors – mostly tan, dark woods, hardwood dance floor, dark wood chairs. We are having our ceremony after 5pm with reception right after, until midnight.
I am having a really hard time choosing Bridesmaid or Best Man dress colors. I know I want tea length dresses. I wanted something chocolate brown, maybe with a bit of a shimmer. The issue I am having is the brown w/ a black tux. I know I can get it with a brown vest and tie. It does look good, but when they take off their jackets, I don’t know how I will feel about the brown vest/tie with black pants and shoes.
Is this ok to any of you guys? Or would champagne dresses look better? Maybe a black tux, with champagne tie? Anyone ever see this?

Have you considered having the guys wear brown suits instead of black tuxes? Since it’s an outdoors wedding maybe it can be a bit more casual? Other than that, I would probably go with champagne, but that’s a personal opinion :). Good luck!

My girls are wearing chocolate brown dresses, but the guys are wearing black tuxes with pale green vests. Our colors are ivory, chocolate and pale green.

Thanks for your input. 🙂
jo.lee – my guys won’t wear the brown so that’s out.
7sevenj9 – that does sound really nice. I think it will look really good.
I have decided to go without the brown all together. I am going with a black and ivory wedding, with some fuschia as an accent color. It is what I originally wanted anyway, and since it is an evening wedding I am just going for it. Plus, my sister got married in November and she did the whole autumn theme and brown dresses, so I want to do something different. 🙂

My BM’s are wearing Sable (brown) and I didn’t personally like the idea of Black and Brown together… too dark for a wedding! So I talked to my fiancee and we decided to have the Groomsmen wear khaki suits! It compliments the brown very well and I threw in a baby blue as an accent color. Hope this helps! Happy Planning 🙂

My Darling Husband DESPISES black and brown together. Hates it with a burning passion. Because of that, we changed the color of our Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses and of the wedding. I like the ivory and black idea you stated above 😉

we are also getting married in a dark wood type of place – we have brown (espresso) colored dresses for the girls, black tuxes with brown vests for the guys and it looks great!
heres a previous post about similar stuff – its got pics of my girls dresses in it: http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/black-or-brown-suits-with-brown-bridesmaid-dresses

we are getting married in late september in the evening and having a black and ivory wedding. but in case you are still trying to decide, i was in a wedding last october where the BMs wore chocolate brown dresses with tan (maybe caramel?) sashes and the groomsmen wore black tuxes and it looked great. the flowers were all fall foliage colors (maroon, gold, orange…think changing leaves). PM me if you’re interested in seeing pictures (i don’t want to post pictures of someone else’s wedding without permission).
