@renwoman:  The gift card idea sounds good to me. Have her go in and try something within your guidelines and then get the price from her. Tell her you want to think about it and ask her not to purchase the dress. Then send her the gift card with the right amount on it. (This is all assuming she doesn’t know that you are paying for the dress). If she does know then maybe you can just send her a check after she tries on and finds the right dress.

I made a trip back home and went shopping with one of my girls. I told the other girls what to get and she went on her own time.

As far as paying with DB on the phone that’s what my mom did with my dress. We were on different coasts and everything was fine. If you’re worried about when she’s going to shop for it set something up with her so that you both are on the same page.

I think that sounds great! That’s one of the nice things about DB… you can go in and get a feel for what their dresses cost and get her a gift card. Wonderful if DB lets you pay before she picks a dress? Most of them cost about the same.

Is visiting her an option? I was lucky enough to travel to take my cousin shopping so she could pick out her dress. Granted, she paid for it, but we had such a nice trip and we typically don’t get to see each other much anymore so it was very special.

I only have one bridesmaid/MOH; she lives in Australia. I live in Canada.

Basically, I have got 3 options:
Option 1
I’ve been looking at Etsy sellers, ModCloth, For Her and For Him, Dolly Couture as most would allow me purchase a gift certificate online. (I’m also looking for a below knee-length dress; i.e. mid calf-length for my MOH)
Then, Maid/Matron of Honor could order the dress and provide measurements. The dress could be shipped to her for any additional alterations. (But then, she would have to handle alterations)

Option 2
I’ve been looking at fabrics on Etsy and also phoning fabric stores around. I could get MOH’s measurements and sew a dress for her. My Maid/Matron of Honor is completely open to the idea of me sewing a dress for her.

Option 3
The two of us have looked on dresses together online via Skype. (You can share desktop, which is awesome!) So, she has a general idea of what to look for locally where she lives. I would then plan to gift her a red envelope (with cash in it) to reimburse her dress.

P.S. I have already told my Maid/Matron of Honor that I’m covering her dress.

P.P.S. Your bridesmaid should be able to take you shopping via Skype (on a smart phone) or Face Time! Skype is pretty awesome for keeping in touch with girlfriends who live so far away.

@renwoman:  Enjoy phone shopping 🙂 It’s super fun!!

I actually found my wedding dress together with my Maid/Matron of Honor at DB via Skype; my Future Mother-In-Law was there with me, so she could help me take pictures and give extra input while chatting & catching up with my Maid/Matron of Honor.
