Is this a situation where they would have to drive to another town and go to a boutique, or could they order it on the internet?

@wildcatjack:  Have you called / spoken to your bridesmaids since you sent out that email? They could’ve never received the email. Seriously though, if I received an email mid October with the deadline of end of November, I would have procrastinated until the very last minute because I’d have 1.5 months to order it. I would call each of your bridesmaids with a friendly reminder.

I feel your frustration.  I started the bm dress order thing in Oct too.  So far we have 2 measurements and 1 payment.  But ours don’t have to be in until a couple months before the wedding.  I go back every month or so and remind the ladies and the reassure me “next month.”  I’m assuming no one will have funds this month or next due to the holidays so I’m figuring I’ll set some deadlines for Jan/Feb.

Edit: we have 6 bm’s

@wildcatjack:  Eeek! Hmmm, I hate nagging also but it does get results. Good luck!

@wildcatjack:  Forget email and forget text. Get on the phone and speak to each of them. They are your close friends, right? So you should be talking to them fairly often anyway.

@wildcatjack:

You told them to order by the end of November.  It’s the 26th today. If you actually wanted them ordered by mid-November you should have said so.  You shouldn’t even be thinking about this until at least November 30th.  I never pay for anything earlier than I have to so you can bet I’d be ordering on the 30th if that’s what you told me to do.

Why do they have to be ordered so soon? Rush shipping fees for an April wedding? Who makes the bridesmaid dress? We went with Alfred Angelo dresses and one of my girls ordered 7 weeks before our wedding (she had just given birth) and there were no problems with ordering then and she didn’t have to pay for rush shipping.

Firstly I think you need to be calm for this situation. There are already so many pressure to plan a wedding, it’s no need to add more. I think you ought to remind them in November. But now, since the time is already late, you should just let it go and ask them to place the order asap. Also you can communicate with the suppliers to reduce the rush fee for you. To have a pleasant wedding is the most important thing. 🙂

I’m in the same boat so I definitely sympathize with your frustration. People like to procrastinate though and emails are easily overlooked. Just give each of your bridesmaids a friendly reminder that they need to get on ordering their dresses.

I was feeling frustrated with that same situation too! I felt like I had to keep nagging them to get measurements, and it was terrible. So once I got their measurements, I just ordered the dresses myself and paid for them (took the money out of the wedding fund) and then asked the girls to pay me back. That way, the dresses were ordered. It took me a few weeks to get reimbursed from all the girls, but I wasn’t stressed out about it anymore since I knew that the dresses were ordered.

Anyone else realize that it’s the Christmas season and their money may be tied up elsewhere?

I asked my bridesmaid at the beginning of November to order their dresses. Only one has done it. I’m not having a cow until January because quite honestly, it’s more important for me for them to have a decent holiday season with their family. If need be, I’ll pick another dress if they can’t all get them.

It’s just a dress. It’s not that big of a deal.
