I do like the dress…with the fabric you found it would look a lot better imo

I love the dress it’s so cute, but the fabric you selected is a little too messy for my personal taste, so I can understand why one bm is hesitant. However, if you really love it and you’re paying for the dresses – go ahead!

I like the dress.

I definitely do not like the fabric.

@BeckyS0: Then personally, I would go with a pattern that is a little more mainstream.

LOVE the dress. Not a fan of the fabric.

The dress is great!  Simple, clean, definitely re-wearable.  The fabric I could take or leave.  I would definitely sew something up with it if it were in my stash, but I’m not sure it would be this silhouette.

You should definitely check with the seamstress who’s making the dresses to be sure this fabric (or any other fabric you’re considering) will be suitable for this design.  She’s going to struggle making the dresses if it’s not the right type (weight, drape) of fabric, and that’s not fun!  And if the fabric is too heavy or stiff (I see the color circles on the left – is it quilting cotton?) the gathers in the skirt will NOT be flattering.

@BeckyS0:  Gotcha.  There are tons of different types of woven cotton fabric, and weight/drape can really vary.  So, it’s pretty vague of her to say “I just need 100% cotton,” but based on that, a quilting cotton would probably be fine.

It’s against your seamstress’s directions, but you might also consider a cotton/silk blend, which would have a really nice drape, but still be easy to sew like cotton.  Would have to be sure it was nice and opaque, though, unless the dresses are lined.

The small floral pattern on the original dress has much more of a garden party feel to it, in my opinion. I would stick to that, or find another small floral in a different color if you prefer.
