@bluefrog33:  I like the Mary Kay lip scrub and balm – but would be a tooth brush would work just as well.

Just got a new scrub I love – I can’t remember the name but it is on the other beauty thread about best lotions.

I find lip scrubs to be useless. What works for me (and I do this in the shower every day) is after being in there for a few minutes, I just take my finger and rub it over my lips (with a bit of pressure). The dead skin comes off super easily.

I have homemade ones that I use.  For body it’s a mix of oil (you can use almost any kind, curently I’m using a mix of olive and veg), sugar, and lemon juice.  The sugar and lemon exfoliate and the oil adds moisture.

It is very slippery though, so be careful if you’re using it in the shower.  It’s really great for legs, you scrub that on and then shave (I don’t even rinse, just use the oil instead of shaving cream) and tons of dead skin comes off.

For lips I mix brown sugar and coconut oil, use 2-3 times a week.  It works and is edible (and yummy).

@bluefrog33:  I do home made.

My favorite for lips is just coconut oil and white sugar. I make it up as a need it, just enough for a one time use, since I don’t use it very often. Add a mint essential oil to the mix and it would be fab!

For a body scrub, I use a mixture of olive oil, coconut oil, white granulated sugar, cane sugar, and whatever essential oils I’m feeling at the time.

I don’t use a recipe, just make it up to the consistency I prefer, put it all in a mason jar, and use as needed.

It’s seriously so much cheaper to make your own. And you can control the ingredients- who knows whats in the Bath and Body Works stuff. You can replicate your favorite scents with essential oils.

Good luck!

I was just looking yesterday for a good homemade scrub because my skin is so dry with the cold weather here and my wedding is next weekend, so I’m hoping for dazzling skin 😉

I just used cocounut oil and sugar. I used it on damp skin, then rinsed off with full shower. It felt great to scrub the dry skin off! And my skin felt great after!

@Kit_Kath:  Yes! Actually it was quite slipperly in the shower, so I had to be extra cautious!

My favorite lip scrub is LUSH. They have flavors (bubblegum, mint juLIP, etc.) and its edible! But the best thing is it really works!

I also have used a simple homemade mixture of olive oil and brown sugar (equal amounts). Works great and nourishes the lips.

My favorite body scrub is Dove Gentle Exfoilating. I love body washes and scrubs, but scrubs are usually too harsh for me. This one is really nice and gentle, but still scrubs enough to get my skin clean and healthy looking. And it smells really good!

@bluefrog33:  I tend to use soft body brushes if I am exfoliating my body– the wooden kind with somewhat soft natural bristles. They work much better for me than exfoliating scrubs– I haven’t found one yet that seems both effective and not overly costly.

If I need to exfoliate my lips, I use this method which I read about in a fancy makeup/beauty book years ago: I put vaseline on my lips just before a shower, and take a soft old toothbrush in with me. After a few minutes in the shower, I will gently scrub my lips with the toothbrush until they feel smooth and the vaseline is gone. It works very well.

@bluefrog33:  I rub plain old sugar on my lips. I find oil to hinder the exfoliation process. There are a lot of good body scrubs. My most recent fave is Farmhouse Fresh Bourbon Bubbler. I got it from drugstore.com.

I second LUSH! They are a little expensive, but the products last forever and it is totally worth it!!

@bluefrog33:  I just found e.l.f’s lip exfoliator and it’s awesome. And like$2. I found it at Target. You just put it on your lips like lipstick. Leave it for a few. wipe it off. apply your fave gloss/chapstick. and it smells nice too!

@bluefrog33:  I don’t use a body scrub, but as far as the lip scrub, I just scrub my lips with my toothbrush everyday and that works like a charm to exfoliate them. My lips are always smooth and I don’t ever have extra dead skin on them.

I do homemade sea salt body scrubs, and sugar lip scrubs. I LOVE the homemade version of the lip scurb.. just need sugar, honey and a dab of vanilla, but you could use a variation of other oils as well. They work really good!

I like the neutrogena citrus body scrub- i believe it’s sugar based but is very oily so be careful not to slip in the tub, but it kept my skin very soft! I also really like their sesame body oil for moisurizing
