We almost went with Bold American, but decided on Affairs to Remember instead. I went to one tasting at Bold and thought the food and presentation were both excellent. They are strictly a catering company (as opposed to a restaurant that does catering on the side like SIMB) and you can tell they know what they’re doing.

I also considered SIMB early on, but my friend (who is an event planner) strongly discouraged me from going with them. She and her husband both said that their service is lacking and the food is not on par with what you’re getting when you eat at their restaurant. I don’t know if this is true, but I didn’t want to risk it.

ETA: I wasn’t a fan of the table decor setup at the BA tasting. It was kind of French countryside. I’m sure they have other options but I didn’t see what they were.

I’ve eaten at Sun in my Belly a couple of times and all of the times I’ve been there, the food has been great! It’s very farm-to-table if that’s your thing. I personally don’t have much experience with them as a caterer, but one of my friends got married (I had another wedding to go to so I wasn’t able to attend), but they used SIMB and they seemed to have a positive experience.

We are going with Bold – although since we’re having an Indian wedding with Indian food, they work with an Indian restaurant (Bhojanic) and Bold provides linens, cutlery, plates, etc and they do all of the service. We are actually doing family style service and they had some great ideas on how to make it work. They DEFINITELY know what they are doing. They are really on top of their stuff. I’m not worried at all about the food for that reason and every vendor that we spoke with said that they were the best at what they do. They are a bit “corporate” and it’s annoying that they aren’t necessarily willing to work too much within what they can offer you within a budget. I was getting frustrated early on with how much more they wanted to charge us for doing family style versus buffet. I honestly don’t understand why they need THAT many extra servers or why the food would be significantly more expensive. I knew that it would be more money, but they weren’t really willing to explain exactly what these extra servers were for or why they were necessary. It felt very “corporate” and as though it was all kind of line items they were transferring. We were stalling trying to figure out if it was worth the extra expense and finally they told us that if we would sign by this weekend, they would take off one extra chef and 2 extra servers. Excuse me, but if you are willing to take them off then they aren’t necessary and I resented being strong-armed to make the deal. Regardless, we wound up going with them and I know they’ll do a great, professional job.

Don’t you get a discount at Biltmore for going with Bold?

@atlbride2013:  If you don’t mind me asking, what price range did SIMB end up being for you? We are also thinking of going with them, but haven’t met with any caterers yet.

Hi ladies! Looking at SIMB and a few others. Wondering, when you received your quotes, did you opt into working with them for rentals or day of coordinating? If so, how was that? Or your experience with them in general?

I don’t live in GA and our wedding won’t be large enough to justify a planner, so one-stop-shopping is mighty tempting and a responsive vendor is a must. Thanks!

@atlbride2013:  Thank you so much! Just took a look at your recap — looks like they did a fantastic job (and your wedding was gorgeous!) The rental quote gave me a bit of pause, but we’ve got a tasting set up. If the food is as good as it looks, I’ll just suck it up and get my linens elsewhere.
