Hi bees!
Not Wedding Related, but what’s the best movie you’ve seen in the past 4-6 months? I’m looking for some suggestions for our date nights in and we’re out of ideas. We don’t like horror films or anything too gory but otherwise we are very open! The best movies we saw in the last six months were Brooklyn (we saw it yesterday and it was AMAZING!) and The Intern, which was sweet and funny.
And while we’re here, lets round out the post. What’s the best book you’ve read in six months? I haven’t read as much as I’d like to lately and I’d love suggestions. I’m not a huge fan of the horror/sci-fi genre, but I read anything else. I love general fiction, chic lit, romance, fantasy, and I really love memoirs/biographies when written well.
Thanks bees! ๐

kayah: Ok…librarian here–that’s a lot of genres with good books in them. Are you the sort of reader who likes to follow the bestsellers? Do you like happy endings? sad endings? is it more about the characters or the plot for you? …I can get pretty close to an awesomely perfect book with enough info–that said here’s what I recommend if you haven’t read already:
Me Before You by Jojo Moyes
All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr
Challenger Deep by Neil Shusterman
The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins
We Were Liars by E. Lockhart
A Discover of Witches by Deborah Harkness
and here’s some more recently published good stuffs:
The Porcupine of Truth by Bill Konigsberg
Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates
Those Girls by Lauren Saft
The Paper Magician by Charlie Holmberg
Carry On by Rainbow Rowell
Enjoy! And feel free to ask for more!

kayah: Well, I adore Colleen Hoover for books. She’s amazing. Read them all – you will not be disappointed.
As for fantasy, I’ve read the Imdalind series and the Significance series. Both good, romance-y, and not too “out there”.
I watch the same movies over and and over, but recently I really liked Star Wars (it was really awesome and I’m not a massive fan), Mockingjay, Kingsmen, and A Walk in the Woods. (There’s so many more but I’m drawing a blank right now)
Read those books though. I have a special place in my heart for Ugly Love, Hopeless, and Maybe Someday. Start with one of those ๐

beautifulansuz: I’m a happy endings type of person. I read Never Let Me Go and it destroyed me ๐ I just do better with happy! Character development is important to me in a novel – I can get behind almost any book with well-fleshed out characters and a happy ending!
Me Before You is on my list already – I’ll have to bump it up. Thanks!

cooperlove: Thanks for the suggestion of Colleen Hoover – I have a sample on my kindle now and I might just give her a shot.
I saw Star Wars, too, and it was good but I’m not a gigantic fan. I like it enough to see them with DH but if it was up to me I wouldn’t pick them!

Have you read Modern Romance from Aziz Ansari? It’s quite funny and an interesting analysis of dating.

Omg best fantasy books and personal favorites – Caster Chronicles, the immortal instruments, the Iron Fey, Shadowfalls series, Anna and the French kiss, Die for me series by Amy Plum. For a bit of hot romance mixed with fantasy I recommend the dark hunter series by sherrilyn Kenyon, and warrior rising or other goddess summoning series by PC Cast.
I know these may seem like teenage books but they are awesome sauce. By the way, I’m 25 if that makes a difference ๐

kayah: I recently read The Giver Quartet by Lois Lowery. It’s fantasy and kinda dystopian but I thought how it connects throughout was really good. It’s a pretty easy read too.

I’m reading Queen of the Tearling right now, and it’s really good so far. For a fun read, check out Welcome to Temptation by Jennifer Crusie. She’s a great romance writer. Also, check out the Farseer trilogy by Robin Hobb. She’s one of the best fantasy authors out there today.
We watched Trainwreck last weekend. Really funny.

I thought Star Wars was awesome and enjoyed Burnt with Bradley Cooper!
Books: The Girl on the Train, Where’d You Go Bernadette, and What Alice Forgot were great!
