So, I have just booked my first bridal appointment to try on different dresses!
I have my heart set on Enzoani Diana, but I thought I would give other dresses and veils a try before I order it.
So for the experienced bees, is there anything I need to think about, any advice you can give me? I am so super excited!
Should I wear some spanx or something for the fitting?

That is exciting! Please share some pictures if you can! Best of luck during your dress shopping. =)

@Rouquine: Thanks! It’s not for another month, but I wanna share the news! It’s so awesome, lol!
Do you have any advice? I’ll share pictures, I promise!

@Mithralia: I wish I had some to share, but I didn’t go dress shopping. I was planning to, but we had to cancel due to problems going on at the time. I bought my dress online though without trying it on. So glad it ended up being perfect. You can probably wear spanx though if you feel comfortable! I don’t see a problem with that.
I guess my only advice would be is don’t settle on a dress because it’s taking too long or whatever the reason may be. =) Find that dress that makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Possibly cry. Also remember to have fun.

@Rouquine: Thanks! I will def have fun! And I am so looking forward trying out dresses! LOL

i didnt wear makeup as i was paranoid about it coming off on the dresses ( like foundation etc) as some of them have to go over your head
i think the most important thing is to make sure you dont go with too many people and trust your instincts. and if a shop is snotty with you…go to another one. my sister went to a bridal shop with her friend (shes a BM) and the assistant/manager were not nice at all. picking a wedding dress should be a good experience!
and i would try one of each style even if you think you know what you want…you may be surprised what suits you and what doesnt! good luck!

@newname_99: Thanks for the advice, I really appreciate it!
I am actually going alone, since my family lives in another country and it’s a bit of a distance for them, if I am lucky my mom would be able to fly in to join me! I am so looking forward to trying dresses!
I am a plussized girl but that’s not gonna stop me from enjoying this experience for me 🙂
For the past 6 months I’ve been calling the same dress store, and they are so nice. I got a name on the girl that will help me during the appointment. 🙂

Have fun! Follow your instincts, and try on dresses that you wouldn’t normally try on! I tried on a bunch of different ones and loved almost all of them, but the one that was the most different was The One.
The shop I went to gave me a longline bra and slip to wear under the dresses, so you can probably just wear light colored underwear and be good. Get the designers and style names/numbers of the dresses, and take pictures (if you’re allowed–some salons don’t allow this).

@vorpalette: I am trying to get as much pictures as I can! I actually asked a girl I am working with (We are the only girls on our dept, and I really like her) to come join me for some dress shopping and a nice lunch afterwards. It’s gonna be a girly day out afterall, which I rarely have 🙂 She also offered herself to take pictures if it’s allowed so I am hoping they will not say no.
I told my Fiance today that there is no need for me to book with Jenny Packham anymore since I don’t think I want to take that chance in case I change my mind in the last minute, and to be honest this causes less stress for me at least.
@pengoala: Thanks so much! I am looking forward to it!
Super giddy now, Fiance is giggling because I am so excited. LOL

Go more than once! Don’t have it in your head that you are buying your dress in that trip. It might happen, but it might not. They go faster than you’d think (the appointment).
Atrapless bra, water, camera and minimal jewelry so it’s not distracting from the dress.

Fun! Don’t buy on your first visit. Take pictures. Try on different styles/cuts at first, but when you figure out what you want, don’t doubt yourself!

You have some really good advice from fellow bees. I would say just live in the moment. Really look at the dresses and point out what you like on them and what you don’t. This really helped me when I tried on dresses my first and only time so far. I learned that I didn’t like certain lines cause by pick up skirts, I don’t like satin, halter tops will never be for me but that surprisingly i really do like ball gowns and tulle, and ivory color.
It can be a very surreal experience. It took me about an hour into my appointment for me to feel like I was a bride. I just had a hard time wrapping my head around it. I was really glad that someone was allowed to take pictures cause now I can look back and see what I liked and didn’t like from each dress. I think this next time I go out, I will be more prepared and more specific in what I want. And even though my mother loved me in a halter top, it’s my big day and I want my dress to be something I love. Just remember that, its your dress. Opinions are nice but you have to wear it and love it.

wear a strapless bra! i also think it’s nice to go on your own at least once…that way you are not swayed by anyone elses opinions. but mostly, enjoy it 🙂

Thanks so much for the advice! I put the strapless bra, spanx, water in the calendar in my Filofax with date and time for an appointment, just incase. Also, will try to wear minimal makeup and jewelry:)
I am so happy and giddy to share this with you bees! I am pretty much girlfriend less where I live (I only hang out with boys), so sharing it with other brides is so awesome. 🙂
