- Wedding: May 2014
I’m so happy (and relieved!) we just paid the deposit on our venue!! It also means we finally have a date!! We live in NE Scotland and after 4+ years here it feels like home so we decided to get married up here.
We only looked at 4 venues IRL but a lot of the potential venues were ruled out early just because of logistics (my mum is in a wheelchair and a lot of the castle venues aren’t very wheelchair friendly!) and the National Trust venues (amazing restored castles) were just too restrictive when it comes to what can and can’t be done (no stiletto heels on their antique floors, red wine can only be drunk at tables, it cannot be drunk when standing or walking for fear of spillage on their 8th generation heirloom carpets, music must finish at midnight SHARP-well Fiance and I are party animals so that isn’t going to work…). Anyway we started looking at more ‘quirky’ kind of off-the-beaten-track kind of places and came across our venue! We viewed it one sunny Saturday afternoon (the owners just left the place open and we looked around it all by ourselves, with our little corgi-100% dog friendly!
Straight away I loved it. It was such a change from the dark and somewhat oppressive feel of a lot if the castles we’d seen (but its on a castle estate and we can use the castle, which is pink!, for outdoor photos so best of both worlds!) its huge inside and the whole floor is ‘dancing allowed’ so we’ll have looooads of space for the ceilidh we’re planning. Its a converted cow shed (built by a rich Victorian marquise-he clearly had more money than sense if he built this to just house cows!)
The grounds are basically a large front lawn surrounded by meadows containing sheep and cows. Its so peaceful and beautiful! We had lovely weather when we visited so hopefully we’ll get lucky and get the same in a years time! The best part about it was, its free all of June 2014 so we’ve got our pick of the dates and got the weekend we wanted! We’ll be getting married June 21st 2014! It feels so real now! We picked that date as its the longest day of the year which means for us, 18 hours of daylight-we can’t guarantee the weather but at least we know we’ll have a good long day! In the UK weddings tend to be all-day and night affairs we’ll be partying into the early hours and maybe until sunrise..!!! This venue has no ‘closing time’ 😉
Anyway I just wanted to share my excitement and venue with you all!!! Any date twins out there?!?!
