- Wedding: June 2013
So when we initially got engaged, we figured we would be carrying the costs ourselves and thus, had planned on a small Sunday brunch reception. However, once we went and saw our families (who live out of town), we were pleasantly surprised to learn that both his family and my family were generously going to contribute a nice chunk of change. While we were not initially big on doing the traditional Saturday evening reception with dance, after much deliberation, I warmed to the idea and convinced him that since money was no longer as much of an issue as it was previously and since our family and friends are SO excited for us to get married that it would be nice to do the whole kit and kaboodle.
Last weekend, I went venue hunting with my Mom – we hit four venues in our hometown (FI & I currently live about 75 minutes away) and nothing was really ringing my bell. Too cookie-cutter, one in an industrial park in an office building (ew – I cannot fathom getting married surrounded by concrete and glass high rises) and too small for the most part. We decided at the last minute to do a cold-call on my parent’s country club and sure enough…the last place in the world I would expect to be the place ended up being THE place! Definitely pricier than we were intending on going but it’s really perfect – surrounded by nature but has the fancier vibe that our families were hoping for (we would have been happy to get married in a barn but I think this is a good compromise as we still have our nature).
It’s an all-in-one venue – we’ll get married under a big, beautiful maple tree on the greens and cocktail hour will be on the covered patio, we’ll do the photos on-site and the ceremony is inside the clubhouse. The DOC said that we have free-reign on decor and they will always want to make sure that each wedding is personalized to that couple. Plus they only have capacity to do one wedding a weekend so we don’t have to share with anyone (except private members but they have their own section) So we’ve booked Saturday, September 8, 2012 as our big day – I’m SO excited!
This is an aerial shot of the front:

The patio that we have all to ourselves for the whole day (if it rains, we’ll have the ceremony here)! You can also see the big pretty tree that we will be married under (weather permitting) in this shot (towards the right of the shot):
And this is the reception room – I fell in love with the floor to ceiling windows and the fact that it’s all green outside so while you’re inside, you still get the beautiful views of the grounds:
Is it September 2012 yet??
