Hate to say…but booking a room for one night in Newport during their tourist season will be impossible! 🙁 In fact most of them won’t book one night for most of the year. I would guess from May to September (and winter holidays) they’ll all be a two night minimum

@pab466: Newport is mostly two-night stay minimums it seems…at least at the times I’ve tried to book. Can you try neighboring towns? We just spent a night at a hotel (Hampton Inn) this weekend in South Kingstown which is closeby. It was a very nice hotel & there was a wedding party there if that helps?

I am also getting married in Newport next summer.  We ended up going with the Hyatt for a room block, but the holiday inn express in Middletown had great rates.  They also let you do fri and sat or sat and sun if you want to give your guests an option.  The only way to have one night in newport would be to try a bed and breakfast maybe?  the pearl boutique b&bs are nice

I stayed at the Holiday Inn in Middletown/Newport for just 1 night. It was the first weekend of Sept so I would say that’s still ‘in season’ of you want to try there? It was actually nice for a Holiday Inn as well.

we have found exactly one hotel in newport that allows you to book one night during the tourist season: the best western mainstay inn. it’s actually nice for a best western, with a decent restaurant and a pool. we stayed there for one night in july. it’s about a 5 minute drive from the beach.

My Future Sister-In-Law had her wedding in Newport in July and she ran into the same problem.  She booked the Middletown/Newport Holiday Inn for the room block but it was still $250+ expensive.  On the bright side, they gave her a room to have a post wedding breakfast.  Since they serve hot breakfast, it didn’t cost them anything.

Luckily, RI has wonderful public transportation.  Even if you can’t find a hotel nearby, RIPTA will take your guests into Newport.  Have you tried looking in Bristol or Warren?  Its a bit of a drive but they are nice towns with a smaller Newport feel and good restaurants.  The hotels will be cheaper.

@pab466: I just attended a wedding in Newport in August.  They had 2 hotels blocked.  One was the Hyatt, which was crazy expensive ($350 for 1 night).  The other, which I stayed at, was the Royal Plaza in Middleton, RI.  It wasn’t great but it was okay.  Try giving them a call.  They also allowed us to stay for 1 night.

Also, another place I was going to stay at but was not blocked was the Sea Whale Motel in Newport.  The owner, who also lives there, was very nice on the phone and the Motel had many good reviews online.

@pab466: I just got married last weekend and we did a block at the Seaview Inn, which is close to the Newport line. They do one night stays for room blocks. And a group of our guests booekd one night at the Holiday Inn Express in Middletown. Have you talked to both of them?

Another thing is closer in more hotels will be willing to let your guests book on their own for one night stays. Its not ideal, but they’ll end up getting better rates. The hotel I stayed at doesn’t do one night room blocks and was super expensive. We met a couple staying for a night at the hotel who booked through travelocity and got an amazing deal. Its really common to get way better prices if guests wait until the last minute. I wouldnt recommend this in the summer months, but if you go off season, it could be a good option.

Just saw your post…are you still thinking Newport?  I was able to set up a room block for one night only at the Royal Plaza in Middletown.  It is literally the only place anywhere near Newport that will do it during high season.  Seriously, I called everywhere!!!  Give them a call and ask for Pam.  She was very nice to work with.

Hi BLeigh,

I’m a bride looking to get married in Newport and these message boards are really helping me. I’m nervous about the 2 night minimum—especially with some of the hotel prices. Thank you for the suggestion of the Royal Plaza. How much is the rate for 1 night? Thanks!
