We booked our trip to the big island about 7 months out. We used Yapta to track the flight prices on the date that we wanted. They track the prices on all the different carriers, and let you know when prices drop. We were able to score tickets for around 500 each, which was an awesome deal!

One problem we did have though, was that since we bought so early, the airline kept changing the flight numbers and times on us. I actually had to call the airline and get our itinerary redone because they changed it to have us flying out of two places at the same time. But they did that all free of charge so it wasn’t too big of a deal.

Good luck!

I am also getting married in May and going to Hawaii. I have met with the travel agent to get all the pricing and hotel, airline, etc info. They actually told me to wait a little while to book because 2011 pricing is just coming out now and everything isn’t out yet. If you are just booking plane tickets, you might be ok but hotels are starting to post 2011 deals so I’d say another month I will book.

we started planning in december ’09 and officially booked in february ’10.  so that’s about 8 months out.  we didn’t book the flights until this past summer though, because wanted to see if rates would decrease.  they did not.

We’re going on a cruise and booking through a travel agent.  We are booking our cruise in Oct. ’10 for our honeymoon in Oct. ’10.  We’re booking so far in advance so we can make payments towards it monthly instead of paying a lump sum later.

We booked ours in Bali about 8 months out to secure a good hotel and flight deal. When it comes to things like that, I dont think you can be “too early” really. And plus, once you have booked it, it is one less thing to worry about 🙂

We usually recommend six to nine months in advance.
