It depends on where you’re getting married, is it a big city or small? If you’re not in a big city, I would start looking at a year and a half out and book by a year out.

I would say book as soon as your find your venue. Be sure to find out about their cancellation policy. I got married in Tampa and booked 9 months out- that was three months after we found the venue but DH had to convince me we could afford it.

I would start looking right away once you have a date in mind, that way you have time to check out any and all venues you’re interested in and still have plenty of time to book.

We booked the end of June this year for Sept 27 2014.  Just like your area, Long Island venues book quick and I was definitely not the first to book at my venue for the fall.  Another plus of booking early is that we got 2013 prices, always love saving some money! Just be sure of your estimated guest list size too, don’t want to pick a place that’s too small!

I just booked a wedding venue for summer 2013 and at some places all Saturdays were already booked through the fall so I would say as early as possible if you’re looking for a Saturday wedding during prime wedding time (March-October)

Congratulations on your engagement! When booking a wedding venue, it’s important to book as early as possible in order to ensure that you are able to book your first choice on a date as well as the venue you want. For summer weddings, many venues are booked well over a year in advance. A great place to consider is Jericho Terrace, located in Mineola, NY. They have beautiful bridal gardens (which are perfect for pictures), as well as gorgeous patios and atriums. They also have a great event coordinator who is available to help with every step of the planning. Did we mention the amazing award-winning cuisine? To find out more, visit their website: http://www.jerichoterrace.com. You won’t regret it!
