I and another bride I know are marrying Marines, and I’m wondering if there are any good books out there about being married to someone in the military? Most that I’ve seen are either too basic or are written for officers’ wives rather than for the spouse of an enlisted member. Another I was looking into had an overwhelming number of reviewers proclaim it to be nothing more than a shameless plug for the author’s mediocre website. Any help in this would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Married to the Military by Meredith Levya. Based upon your comment about “shameless plug for her mediocre website” it is probably that book. HOWEVER, it should be noted that 1. Meredith no longer owns the website, it is run by military.com. 2. The book has some damn good information written in a way that makes it easy to understand. 3. The website might be mediocre but the forum on said website has been a life saver for me when I have had questions or problems. The women (and sometimes men!) who participate in that forum have a wealth of informaiton and are always more than willing to answer questions to the best of their abilities, much like Wedding Bee.
The complete idiot’s guide to life as a military spouse. A decent book that covers THE EXACT same information as Married to the Military but in a much more dense dry manner and is not nearly as up to date as the aforementioned. Still, a decent book for the basics.
Separated by Duty, United in Love. This is a book that focuses almost solely on deployments but is a worthwhile read. I do caution potential readers though that it is heavily oriented towards Christian belief systems.
Help! I’m a Military Spouse I get a life too! A cute book on how to build and maintain a career while moving all over the earth with your husband. It has some practical suggestions and is a good read. I would recommend this if someone has any desire whatsoever to get a job at any point in time during their spouse’s career.
I have a couple of more recommendations but I can’t remember them off the top of my head. Feel free to PM me though. 🙂
ETA: If you do get Married to the Military by Meredith Levya, make sure you get the most recent edition! I believe it was either 2009 when it was updated.

@Penguingal06: I can’t wait until they get here! Since Darling Husband is on leave we’re just hanging out at his Uncle’s house until the end of the month, then we’re moving to Lemoore; I wanna go lounge by the pool and read, lol.

That sounds amazing! I am heading out to San Diego over the next 2 weeks…(un)fortunately I start working very soon after I get there which means I won’t get to enjoy the sunny CA weather poolside!
