After debating Australia, Thailand, Japan, Amalfi Coast, Fiji, etc for our honeymoon, we’ve decided we want to splurge a little and go to Bora Bora. We’re looking to either split 3 nights in Moorea and then 4 nights in Bora Bora, or just do 7 or 8 nights in Bora Bora. However, we’d like to keep our budget in the $10-$12k MAX range, including flights and meals. We’re looking for resort ideas with the following amenities:
a. overwater bungalow
b. no family resorts and no kids running around everywhere
c. private and secluded
d. snorkeling on a nice beach
Some ideas we’ve looked at have been the Hilton, the St. Regis, and the Sofitel. Have any of you bees gone to Bora Bora? Which hotel would you recommend for the most romantic, private experience? Is it worth it to go to Moorea and Bora Bora or would we be getting the most bang for the buck by going to Bora Bora?

@atlbride2013: We stayed at the Hilton since they supposedly had the best snorkeling of all the resorts. The view was also gorgeous since of the direction it faced.
When we were there and saw the other resorts; definitely happy with our decision!!!

@missporkchops: Is that the Hilton in Moorea or in Bora Bora?

@atlbride2013: Both. In Moorea, the Hilton is the nicest resort. It was also near Pao Pao where a lot of the tours start and where some of the better food is.
Bora Bora wise, Hilton wasn’t the most luxurious resort compared to Four Seasons and St. Regis but it offered the best snorkeling right under the bungalows. It also faces away from the main island on the motu whereas the rest of the resorts face inward so the water/snorkling isn’t as amazing. It’s still great, don’t get me wrong!

I would recommned going to both islands because they really are different and both incredibely gorgeous!! We loved the Hilton Moorea and was suppsoed to have the best snorkeling, although I really didn’t find it to be that great. But I sure did love the Crepes bar they have there 🙂
We stayed at the IC THalasso in Bora Bora and absolutely loved it. It was cheaper than teh St Regis but still cosnidered 5 star. (along with Four Seasons) we ended up choosing it because it had a modern vibe and liked that they offered a meal plan. We also enjoyed the liittle extras like stingray feeding every day and happy hour every night.

Thanks for y’alls recommendations ladies! We ended up booking 4 nights in Moorea at the Hilton and 3 nights in Bora Bora at the St. Regis. It was very close between the Four Seasons and the St. Regis. I’m so excited!!

@atlbride2013: I was originally going to go there and Moorea and I looked at St Regis and the Four Seasons in Bora Bora. In Moorea we had actually booked at the Hilton but also looked at Sofitel.
ETA: I see you booked! Have fun and post pics when you get back!
