My fiance and I have been planning a mid-size (120) person wedding in Oregon for the past year. All of the details and looming to-do’s are really starting to bum me out. My fiance and I started playing around with idea of eloping (just us two) to somewhere exotic we’d never go again- Like Bora Bora.
Spend the 13K on the wedding we’ve saved or blow it on an amazing week in paradise?

I have some friends that did! They did the Four Seasons wedding package, just the two of them complete with dancers and drums and everything you could think of!
I say use the $13k on yourselves for your own day without worrying about accomodating anyone else. Maybe a legal wedding in the US with just close close guests, take them to dinner, then go to Bora Bora for the honeymoon/non-legal ceremony.
However, after the fact they found out that their marriage was not recognized in the US. They went to Bora Bora to get away from the whole family stress scene. But in the end their parents “made” them have a US wedding.
Research that before they go! I don’t know if they did it wrong or it’s just not legally recognized at all.

As we were enjoying the last hour at our resort in Bora Bora during our honeymoon we ran into a couple who were there for their elopement (is that the right word?) =) It was very cool. I say go for it!!!

That’s what we’re doing! Instead of spending money on a wedding, we’re getting legally married here with just our parents and siblings and then heading to Bora Bora and having a wedding, just the two of us!
