I would highly recommend you go to Boston and go to VOWS Bridal Outlet in Watertown, MA (http://www.bridepower.com). I bought my dress there and you can get a higher end wedding dress for a fraction of the price.

I would wait until November/December and hit all the bridal sample sales here in New York. Many of the designers are based in NYC and at the end of the year they clear out their last season stock. The prices get SLASHED and most are new dresses that haven’t even been worn.

in NYC, i’ve heard amazing things about Lovely and The White Gown. Additionally, there’s RK, but I think Lovely is right up your alley!

Go to Boston – specifically Watertown (just outside Boston) and go to Vow’s.  They have a HUGE selection and many are available off the rack – all at deep discounts.  They’re appointment only Mon-Fri, but on Saturday you can walk in.  Feel free to message me about it.  I went there for my dress and was so much more comfortable than when I went to a bridal boutique.

Just an FYI, I had a horrible experience at Kleinfeld’s.  The consultant wasn’t helpful at all.  I tried to explain what I was looking for, telling her what I liked and what I didn’t but she ended up telling me I didn’t know what I wanted.  Bridal Reflections on 5th Ave was amazing though! The girls there were so nice, showed me exactly what I wanted and weren’t pushy at all.  When we were thinking of buying that day, they actually told me to hold off and they would let me know when the next trunk show was so that I could get a discount.  I ended up not buying from them because alterations in the city would have been a nightmare, but they were great.  Not sure how many dresses they have under $1500, but its worth a call if you do choose New York.
