So after contemplating FOREVER about whether or not to do a boudoir session, I finally committed to it! I found a photographer in my area offering a Groupon for a boudoir shoot, so I spent the last few days reading reviews and taking a look at her stuff. I decided that she seems reputable and is experienced with working with plus-size ladies, so I decided to go ahead an buy it! I’m really excited about this…even more so because I got a great deal. As a student, I probably wouldn’t have been able to afford ANY boudoir photos but because of this deal I can surprise my Fiance with an awesome gift.
With the Groupon I get a 60 minute shoot in her studio, plus some prints and digital files. I guess the entire disc is available to purchase at a discount as well, so I may take advantage of that and get a book made for Fiance once I have the pics back.
Any suggestions on clothing or tips to make the experience the best it can be? I’m excited…but still kind of nervous! Especially because I want these to turn out great, but I’m still kind of self-conscious about my body. I’d love any help you can offer, especially if you had a boudoir shoot done yourself.

I’m having mine on Saturday. I’m bringing a girlfriend with me, who can always make me laugh and feel really comfortable. we are meeting for some ‘liquid encouragement’ beforehand.
I’ve also scheduled my hair/make up trial for the morning, so I can have it done professionally, and it won’t cost me any extra. They are going to do my wedding make up, and then add a bit more sultry feel afterwards for my shoot.

I wrote a few blog posts about my boudoir shoot experience and I know a few other Bees have as well. Here’s just a few things I can think of off the top of my head…
- wear something you are comfortable in that makes you feel good
- have a little “liquid courage” nearby if it helps (but not too much)
- relax and be yourself
- i had a friend with me which helped my nerves tremendously
I actally ended up having soooo much fun at my shoot that I want to do another one. Alas, they are too expensive 🙁
Hope you have a great time! Good luck!

@KristenGotMarried: Those are good tips!
I second the “liquid encouragement”. Definitely practice your expressions in a mirror – no duck face!!

I so agree about the faces thing. I cannot make a sexy face at all. I look pissed off, lol. But I found a slight, smirky smile worked for me. Unfortunately I didn’t figure this out until my shoot and many of my photos I didn’t like because of the face I made. Have fun…I loved my experience!

I’d drink a glass of wine before you start & make sure to wear something that you’d feel comfortable in. Try to relax and just enjoy the experience. Have fun!!!

For starters, find an outfit that you love that is sexy without being super revealing — the men’s shirt one is a good idea. I used a satin robe with a pretty bra and undies set on underneath it. This will make you feel confident starting out. Sheets and throws are also great for strategic camouflage.
Don’t worry about having to “look good” from nose to toes. You can wear something that you love from, say, boobs up, or knees down, or whatever, and tell them that you want a set of pics in that outfit that highlights the parts you’re comfortable with, and doesn’t include “trouble spots.” I used a corset for this, for example, and we have lots of great closeup shots of torso, face, my back with the lacing, etc etc.
Definitely bring heels. Higher the better. It’s OK if you can’t walk in them. (I can’t.) They will make your legs look fantastic, whether you’re standing, sitting, or sprawled on the bed.
The pics that I have on my tummy/leaning on my elbow on a pile of pillows, and then on my back are super flattering positions.
Definitely laugh. Some of those are my favorite. Another look that worked for me was eyes closed/looking down — very demure and feminine with the lashes.
Finally — TRUST YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER. They know how to make you look good. And they will. 🙂

Thanks for all of these tips, everyone! I definitely will be using some “liquid courage” to get the ball rolling initially, and I really like the idea of bringing various outfits – some that are more revealing and some that are less. I’m getting pretty excited about this little project!

Make a fierce mix of songs that make you feel sexy and confident. I use one for when I workout and when I am getting ready to go out or for a special occasion. It just helps you focus and gets you in the right attitude to flaunt what your Fiance already loves. 🙂
Here are some of my faves:
- Lady Marmelade
- Crazy in Love
- My Humps
Basically anything that has a great beat and is kindof cheesy works. Im sure you have your own list songs that make you feel good!
