Hello Bees! I went from no dress and wondering what to do, to two dresses in two weeks!
I tried dresses on several times, and always came back to my ‘top two’ lace mermaids i’d tried on at a local shop – but when i would think about them, i wasn’t super wowed, and i couldn’t figure out why. that was what i had always pictured myself in, but when i’d tried them on, i hadn’t felt that they were that ‘perfect dress’. i’d say to myself that they looked great, they were classic, and that i’d look great in them – sort of talking myself into them i guess.
well, i went on a whim to a sample sale at an upscale dress shop with my moh and tried on more lace mermaids, and again, none of them felt special! i felt bland and kinda meh – i didn’t feel that they were special enough. about 15 minutes before our appointment was over, i found a blush monique lhuillier gown that was all wrapped up – it had never been opened at the sale and so i couldn’t see the silhouette. I love monique lhuillier, so i decided that i’d try it on just to see. It is a modified A line, with a large full skirt comprised of chantilly lace with a tulle overlay and a gorgeous pleated lace and tulle bodice. I felt totally different in this dress – classic and traditional, beautiful and bridal, so i bought it 🙂 i DID buy it however, with the idea that i would have a dancing dress (9 pm onwards) because this dress is delicate and has a very full skirt. Additionally, the blush gown was only half my budget, so having another dress was no biggie, but i had envisioned something from bcbg or another non bridal brand.
Well, yesterday we went back to the local shop that had the lace mermaids i’d been debating to find bridesmaid dresses, and they were having a year end sale, and in the lower level where the bridesmaids were, they had dresses from 99 dollars to 399. so while my moh was trying on dresses i was looking through them and found a lacy mermaid for 199.00 from 1,200.00. I tried it on and realised that i could chop off the train so that the mermaid flare was equal all the way around and at floor length so no one will step on it. voila! a dancing dress that feels bridal and special, and sexy for nighttime!
At first my mum didn’t understand why i wanted another ‘bridal’ looking dress, she said that she thought i should pick something short and fun, but when i tried those on i felt like a guest and i thought that our bridesmaids would be more dressed up than me! She came around and gave me the green light to purchase it, so I’ll pick it up next week. 🙂 I figured, for 200, what are the odds i’ll find something that I like, that suits me, that gives me the lace mermaid look? not very good and I don’t want to spend weeks searching for what’s right in front of me.
Does anyone else have 2 dresses? Is that crazy? Will my guests think it’s overkill? I’m a little concerned what people will think, but I doubt they’ll put too much thought into it!
this photo makes it look yellowish, in real life it’s like a soft cream with a peach underlayer.
here’s a photo of it in white. mine is in a pale blush colour.
here’s the dancing dress! It’s ivory and I am choosing a different sash 🙂
