Yeah I think promise rings in general are odd.

@rodeoidahochic:  DH and I have been together since I was 15. I think if I bought him jewelry, he would have looked at me like I was crazy! However, the one you picked out is super cool. Just be sure to accept that he may not actually want to wear it.

My mommy side tells me this is all way too much, but my 16 year old spirit tells me this is tooooo cute. Good luck OP

I bought an ex a titanium and diamond ring once, but it was a gift of affection rather than a promise ring

@applecat:  “Does your boyfriend think it’s weird? If not, that’s really all that matters, I suppose.”

How generous and non condescending of you.

Jeeze – Can we just let bees have their high school romances without trying to take them down  a notch?  Does it make your relationship better if you put other people in their place about theirs?

OP is asking if it’s weird because she’s the female giving the guy a ring.  Not because she thinks it’s silly, immature or stupid.  How about we back off?

@rodeoidahochic:  I think it’s weird. My Fiance and I have been together for a really long time, but if I gave him a promise ring two years in when we were teenagers, I think he’d feel overwhelmed.

@FleeSircus:  Not sure why you singled me out, since several other posters have made similar comments, but okay.

The question in the original post contained no qualifiers. She wrote “I bought my boyfriend a promise ring…is that weird?” She didn’t say “because I’m a girl.” I do think it’s weird, because I think promise rings are weird. I answered her question.

I’m sorry my response didn’t fit the guidelines that you think it should have.

@applecat:  I just found it unnecessarily harsh and unsupportive which aren’t my guidelines but the guidelines of the very forum you’re posting on.

@FleeSircus:  I don’t think anything about my post violated the TOS. It was on-topic and answered the question. I framed it by saying it was my honest opinion, and followed it up with a reminder that her boyfriend’s opinion is more important to the situation than ours.

But feel free to flag the post if you feel otherwise.

@rodeoidahochic:  I think promise rings are pointless, for any age.

Not being rude… just wondering… but why are you on a wedding board? I’m sure there’s plenty of forums out ther for teenagers.
