@Barbiestylez:  Holy cow things escalated quickly in this thread! Anywho, YAY for your new purses! First designer handbag purchases are always exciting and it shouldn’t matter if they’re “mid-range” or not! I agree with PP that purses can be very addicting and usually lead to more expensive brands. My friend has a thing for purses and she used to work at Nordstrom so it was very dangerous haha. She started off with some Marc Jacobs bags and then upped it to a Chanel quilted chain bag. She got the Chanel used but still paid an arm and a leg for it. But hey, she looked damn good rockin’ that bag!

@Barbiestylez:  I really like the bags you got. Especially the Coach bag you got for yourself. Love love love that style! I’m personally not the biggest fan of any sort of signature print (doesn’t matter what designer) for myself, but I think it can definitely be pretty. My favorite Coach line is the Legacy, because those styles are the most classic and I’m a classic style type of gal. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Hahaha, I wish I could be invited to sample sales too, but I’m assuming one has to spend $$$$ before they can be invited to those sorts of things.

@mamadingdong:  I think generally when people are talking about investing in clothes or bags or any sort of wearable goods, they are not talking about an investment in the way you’re thinking about. Most of the time, they’re talking about investment pieces, which are:

“Investment pieces mean different things to different people. To some, it means a piece of clothing that you save up for, buy every so often, but love forever. To others, it simply means a classic piece that never goes out of style, fits well and can be worn in a multitude of ways.”

@Chrissy26:  What is designer then? Only high-end/luxury goods? I think that’s what got some Bees thinking your comments were catty.

I’m pretty sure designers design each Coach bag. I don’t understand how the term “designer” is a real designation in the way you two (and others) seem to be using it. High-end/luxury, mid-range, and low-end are more accurate terms to use.

@Barbiestylez:  OMG I didn’t read thru the entire thread before I commented and came back and was like dayyuummm WTF???

Anyway for the record I still consider MK, Coach designer bags….not ” mid grade” or whatever…..yes they are less than LV, Chanel, Gucci but none the less still EXPENSIVE bags many 300-500 and heck that is a lot of money still and very much designer grade and quality!! I have both MK, Coach and also Gucci and LV and still consider my MK designer purses as well for the record!

And as far as the bee lecturing you about investment……who is she to say what one spends their money on??? Ignore and move on…..nothing positive to say = annoying!

^5 to the TPF crew ๐Ÿ™‚ Vetted member of the LV and Louboutin subforums, I don’t go on as often as I used to but I freakin love that site. So educational!

I, too, mull over purchases for months while I decide whether I really want it. I don’t impulse buy, I have a breathing wish list and I pretty much live by it lol. I treat my purses like kids lol stuffers, original boxes, and dust bags. I don’t wear them in the rain (unless it’s LV ebene damier) and I know they’ll last me for years!

Congrats OP and welcome to the club, it is indeed a slipper slope.

God you two are self righteous, just because someone buys expensive things doesn’t mean they need financial counselling or a definition of what an actual investment is.

With respect to fashion, an investment piece means something that will not go out of style and will hold up well over time. Don’t be so narrow minded.

I have viable investments, and also like designer goods. Like others on this thread have mentioned.. I will spend months thinking about things before spending a lot of money on them. To imply that people who spend money on luxury goods need financial counselling is just rude.

@MrsBuesleBee:  If you buy that bag in Paris, you get your VAT back so the price isn’t as scary..

@Barbiestylez:  nothing wrong with that! I can never decide on makeup and my skin is really hard to match. I’ve had over 10 professional and celebrity makeup artists say my skin is impossible when matching lol. If I could find a brand I loved Id buy makeup. I don’t love shoes but love bags ๐Ÿ™‚

as far as coach goes I buy from coachfactory.com they send good deals all the time.

@Barbiestylez:  Rock on!  Handbags are my thing- I don’t do clothes or shoes- I LOVE bags!!

I used to love MK, right now I’m really into Coach.  I went into Louis Vuitton the other day…I found one I love.  But I am having a hard time pulling the trigger on that!

Your mom and sis sure are lucky!

@letigre:  I think most people still consider Coach and MK “designer”– any department store carries them are listed under “designer” for the most part.

No, they are not as expensive as Gucci/Prada/LV.  But price does define designer.

It sort of seems like you just wanted to rain on OP’s joy.  I’m a freakin handbg geek- I LOVE them.  Coach has bags that are far more expensive than some LV’s…..so I guess what I’d love to know is:  What is YOUR definition of “designer”?
