We only have a rock and play that automatically rocks, and I cant live without it. It is really portable and compact. She does not sleep in it at night, but we use it to set her down in during the day, and sometimes let her nap in it. I noticed you said its not approved in Canada. Out of curiosity, who does it have to be approved by to be sold?

My first daughter LOVED her Graco swing. My second did not!!!! She lived in her vibrating chair for the first few months!!! So hard to say! The chairs are way cheaper so you could start with that maybe and see……

I second (third?) a swing with a detachable seat! That’s what we had. I can’t recommend it because it’s not made anymore but I liked it!

My daughter hated the swing but was ok in the bouncer.  If you’re limited on space I would do a combo bouncer and swing like this one http://www.target.com/p/graco-duo-2-in-1-swing-and-bouncer/-/A-14030827?ref=tgt_adv_XSG10001&AFID=google_pla_df&LNM=14030827&CPNG=Baby&kpid=14030827&LID=9pgs&ci_src=17588969&ci_sku=14030827&kpid=14030827&gclid=Cj0KEQjwk7msBRCJj67khY2z_NIBEiQAPTFjvxwdXtqxdnHAb4UPXNBdCnlYwf0g-950n576XQUAza8aAsy-8P8HAQ      If you really only want one I’d go with the bouncer just because it takes up a lot less space and is much more portable, it was even smaller than our space saver swing so I would put it in the bathroom when I took a shower and move it wherever I needed to do anything.

maggielou52:  they make both combined… I think it’s graco that does I bought my sister one its a bouncer that detached from the swing … My nephew used the bouncer part more then the swing… Many Facebook groups you can find gently used for half the price

maggielou52:  depending on how far you live into Canada or if you know someone in America that can ship it… A place called Burlington coat factory has them for around $125 U.S. dollar… Sometimes if they only have a floor model they will let you buy it at a heavy discount.

maggielou52:  It honestly depends on the baby. I had everyone suggest a certain swing and I registered and received it, as well as a bouncer. He ended up never taking to it and exclusively using the bouncer (albeit not for naps). So I truly think it just depends on baby preference.

We didn’t have a bouncer. This would’ve came in handy when she was in that in between stage of neck control. My baby lovvveeeddd her swing thought! She used it up until 6m (she’s 90% for height so she out grew it sooner than other babies I know).

A combo would be your best bet, I think.  It really depends on what your baby prefers (so helpful, I know!!).  My daughter HATED her bouncer and would just scream when we would put her in it.  She loved her swing, though.  My neighbor’s son, however, was the opposite.  Hated swings, loved his bouncer.  There’s really no way to predict what the baby will like, so good luck!
