I think once your bouquet isn’t wider than you are it’s basically fine ! 🙂  – just have a rummage around the galleries here and on The Knot, it does kind of depend on your physical build – if you’re petite a huge bouquet would swamp you, that kind of thing.

The bm bouquets don’t have to be any smaller/bigger than your own, but they should look at least slightly different. I used pale pink and ivory peonies for me, then pale pink and ivory carnations for the girls. No pro pics yet, but they did look pretty!

My bouquet has only 3 flowers in it. I am carrying 3 giant white Calla Lilies. My brides maids are carrying a single sun flower and my Maid/Matron of Honor is carring 3 sun flowers. If you use big flowers that make a statement it is just as good as having bouquet with lots of pricey flowers. Obviously my diferentation is the type of flower being used.

I think the general rule is the bouquet shouldn’t be bigger than your head. LOL

My florist told me she usually makes the bridal bouquets 9-12 inches wide. And bridesmaids bouquet’s are 7-9 inches. But I wanted a bigger than average bouquet so I went with 14 inches wide.

Your florist should know how to size it to your build/shape.  My florist was able to look at me (my height, weight, build, etc) and determine the appropriate size so that it would stand out but not be overwhelming/excessive.  Obviously that size is going to differ for every bride (because we are all different sizes/shapes).

i also think it would depend on the type of flower used. obviously 6 lilacs aren’t going to look as big as, say, 6 gerbera daisies.

or, if you have a dress with gorgeous detailing on the front, you might want to go with a smaller boquet so it doesn’t take away from it.

(love the 3 calla lily idea! I think I’m going with 5 small sunflowers, and BMs will have 3. I would have done 3/1 but the florist suggested that since sunflowers can wilt, it’s safer to have more so you can hide the wilted one.)
