So, we’re starting to look into booking our honeymoon. I’m finding some great deals for a week in Oahu, Hawaii and after reading some threads on here, I am now more excited than ever, especially as I’ve never been to Hawaii before!
Based on the prices and reviews, I’ve kind of narrowed it down to two hotels but I’m having a tough time deciding between the two and would like to ask for some input. If anyone has stayed at either hotel, I’d love to hear about your experiences!
#1) Outrigger Reef on the Beach (Resort Hotel)
- #3 of 100 on TripAdvisor
- Classified as “Deluxe” (on scale of Luxury/Deluxe/Moderate/Standard)
- Partial-Ocean View Room (with marriage certificate, possible upgrade to Ocean View Room?)
Positive thoughts: I’m able to book this hotel with flight & transfers through Costco Travel, so it’s really convenient because I can get everything done in one booking. My fiance is also leaning more towards this hotel because it’s a “resort” hotel. I don’t really know the difference.
Negative thoughts: I looked at photos. The hotel looks great, the area looks great. But the actual rooms look… “standard”. I’m not really impressed? Considering that I’m flying out all this way and spending this money at a “Deluxe, Resort” hotel, they look only a notch better than a Courtyard Marriott. Maybe it’s the ugly sheets or decor.
#2) Hotel Renew (Boutique Hotel)
- #2 of 100 on TripAdvisor
- Premier Ocean View Room
- Honeymooners & Newlyweds Special Package, which includes complimentary bottle of champagne, use of beach gear (based on availability), continental breakfast daily, and cocktail in the lounge
Positive thoughts: The hotel is eco-friendly, is more modern, and looks more luxurious. Also nice that they have a honeymoon package and we will already have the ocean view room without hoping for an upgrade. TripAdvisor reviews sounds like they give you the “Honeymoon Suite” if available.
Negative thoughts: I would have to book hotel and flight w/ transfers separately, so two bookings. I don’t have much hotel/travel experience so I don’t know if a resort hotel would have more benefits and personalized service, or if a boutique hotel would. This hotel also doesn’t have a pool.. but does it really matter, since we will be right on the beach?
What do you all think?
