I think it sounds great, but I find traditional receptions a snooze. Maybe your mom will come around when she sees that people are having fun, because I am pretty sure lots of people will be.

It really depends on your guests and how they feel about bowling in their “nice” clothes, I do enjoy bowling but I usually wear jeans or shorts.. are people going to get to change before they bowl?

It sounds like a ton of fun to me! Bowling isn’t exactly messy, so I wouldn’t be worried about getting dirty. I would definitely try to remind guests to pack some socks, though!

i would absolutely go! i think my mom might not think it was a cool idea either, but that goes with the times. its your wedding day, make it what you want. enjoy YOURSELF, rather than thinking of the enjoyment of your parents. i would absolutely love to join you 😉

I think this sounds like a blast! It will be a day that you, your groom & guests will never forget! If guests know to plan in advance, they can dress for an activity or bring clothes to change into.  Those who wish to dress & stay in more formal attire will probably not participate in the actual bowling, but enjoy watching from the sidelines. (if they can possibly stand not to join in the fun!)

@Fujan25: Well, we had 46 people attend the wedding in the morning including brunch, and we had about 25 people at the bowling alley. It was a really hot day and the elder members of our families weren’t feeling well enough and a bunch of my family were too tired to go bowling (even though they did want to come, it was just too much in the heat). We had 1.5 to 2 hours in between the end of the wedding/brunch before meeting at the bowling alley, so people could head to the hotel or a relative’s place to change.

I think that sounds like a BLAST! If I were a guest, I would really enjoy myself at your bowling reception.

It sounds so fun! Just make sure you will not trip in your dress when you change into bowling shoes Wink
