Just adding to my previous post.

Have you looked at Nameberry? It’s a really good naming site. and very good on the lastest trends.

As I said I’m not into surname names myself, but suggestions for similar to Porter and Greyson would be: Grover, Sayer, Brinsley, Henderson, Lander, Palmer, Asher, Preston, Torren, Corvin, Granger.

Good luck!

Porter is a synonym for bellboy/bellhop. I wouldn’t name my child after a menial hotel job position.

When I read it, I literally saw your child being called “Porter-potty” (i.e, port-a-potty) in my head.  Kids are cruel.

My coworker is playing the name game now, and we try to think of what terrible insults kids may come up with for the name so they can be prepared or weigh those in the choosing process.  I’d like it as a middle name though, Greyson Porter is a good sounding name.

I just think of Porter style beer or Port wine- either way I think it might be better for a nightcap.  If it wasn’t for the association the name has a nice sound to it- wouldn’t be a bad middle name!

I like it. Different but unlikely to be mispronounced or misspelled. That’s a win in my book. I did know someone with the last name of Porter in HS but I’ve never met a dog named Porter. That must be regional or something.

Also I wouldn’t let “Porter potty” detour you. When we were trying to name my son my ex literally found a way that kids could make fun of every single name under the sun. His last name was Lane and he got called “Lame” all the time so it was a big concern of his. There’s always that possibility with ANY name. As a school nurse I can honestly tell you it’s a different day and age. This isn’t the 90’s anymore. Kids don’t get away with bullying these days at school nor is it cool. Do you know what kinds of names your childs classmates will have? Far weirder and worse than “Porter” I promise.

cooperlove :  Isn’t a porter a servant who like, hauls around luggage or something? I’m sorry bee, I don’t really like it. I don’t care for names that have other definitions. I like Greyson though…even though it reminds me a some pretentious rich person (I watched “Revenge” religiously, lol).

I’m gonna be honest, there is strong potential for your small child to be called Portor (or straight up Porta) Potty in elementry school.

Aside from that, I still don’t like it. But thats because I think its not visually appealing spelled out on paper.

cooperlove :  Yes, they are definitely called porters and that’s exactly what I thought of as soon as I saw the word. To me, Porter is a guy who lugs your baggage around and then waits with his hand out for a tip.
