Caden is way too overused for me to ever use. I like the sound of Owen Bruce.

Cadence seems to be an increasingly common girls name, and once masculine or androgynous names start to tilt feminine, there’s usually no going back. See: Courtney, Evelyn, Kelly, Ashley, Dana, Meredith.

I think Caden sounds a lot like the extremely popular Aiden/Jayden/Brayden trend. I do know two people with children named some spelling variant of Caden, but one of them is a little girl.

@nantes14: Wow, really? Kind of shocking.

It was in the top 100 in 2008, and the top 150 for years after that. And babycenter.coms 68th most popular name.

I worked in a kindergarten last year– we had 2 Cadens (a Kayden and a Kaedin), 2 Kaydences (girls), 2 Aidens, 1 Jayden, and 1 Hayden. So I vote for Owen 🙂 I’ve never had a student with that name.

@allyfally:  It depends on what grade she teaches … if she teaches above first grade, she hasn’t had those 2008 Cadens yet!  I teach 4th grade and I’m just starting to get the Caden/Aiden trend this year (one Kayden and 4 Aydans/Aidans in the grade level) and from talking to lower grade teachers, there are many more coming!  Teachers are always behind in what we percieve as popular names.

I think Owen is a cool name, and not nearly as popular as Caden, but I still do know quite a few!

Both are very popular in my neck of the woods. Ignoring that I like both so I didn’t vote. Sorry!
