sunburn :  This is a perfect example on how being firm and totally open about your needs and wishes can avoid years of will he-won’t he waiting. If like many women OP had waited for 3-4 years hoping for the best, she would be miserable and resentful all that while.

That is exciting! Just don’t be crushed if it doesn’t happen on the trip. It’s so hard not to build up expectations though. I would probably be thinking of all the opportune moments to propose haha.

cremecaramel :  Congrats,  I’m so glad he kept his word about getting you a ring. Pic please!

Given his initial reluctance, and only agreeing to engagement once you said you would not move in,  is he willing to set a an actual WEDDING DATE now though??  Or is he still trying to drag his feet for years?

CONGRATULATIONS! What a wonderful way to start the vacation. I actually think the home proposal is lovely. Have a wonderful trip and post a picture of the ring when you get back.

Congratulations.

Tbh, he should have put some more effort than propose in his kitchen, even just waited till the weekend getaway. But I guess you weren’t expecting anything special because he is only getting married because of you, so getting him to propose and marry at all is enough for you.

mel76 :  Not up to you to tell anyone it’s not special unless it’s a grand proposal, is it? He’s taking her for a trip somewhere, presumably to celebrate the engagement. That is effort.

mel76 :  the drawback of a romantic proposal is a longer wait. The fact that OP’s now FH acknowledged how low key the proposal was, his grinning about the ring, and his agreement to marry in 6 months shows he has all the right intentions. That’s enough for some people.

My FH proposed to me at a random park because he didn’t want to keep me waiting an extra week to do it at the wine bar where we first met. I knew the ring was coming but the half day I had to wait for the ring was enough to drive me crazy. I can only imagine how OP felt in her situation.
