When you wear a tank top or cami top, do you wear a bra? Does it bother you if you see another lady’s bra straps showing under her tank top?
I just wonder, as a friend kind of ranted on Facebook today, “Since when did bra straps become a fashion accessory?!?!” I only wear tank tops in the summer or on vacation/at amusement parks (never to work), and I do wear a bra with them as I have a larger chest (not wearing one would be obscene for me, unfortunately…even the ones with the built-in support don’t do much for me). I make sure that you can’t see the cups or the bra under the armpit, but sometimes my straps do show. I don’t wear ratty bras with tanks, and I try to color coordinate with whatever color my shirt is so it is less obvious. Now I’m worried that I’m a walking fashion faux pas!!!
What are your preferences when it comes to wearing tank tops?

I really don’t like being able to see visible bra straps.
I also require wearing a bra (built-ins do nothing for my ladies) so I don’t wear spagehtti strap tank tops (as there is no way to hide the straps). I only wear tank tops with a wide enough shoulder band to keep my bra straps covered.

I do whatever I can to not have the straps show, but if they must I try to color coordinate it as best as possible. I usually only wear something like that bumming around on a weekend or something though.

Same here. I’m not a fan of spaghetti-strap tank tops unless I’m wearing one as an undershirt. I usually opt for a tank top with a thicker strap. If not, I just wear a strapless bra even though i hate them. 🙂

I only wear tank tops that have spaghetti straps alone with a bra around the house. If I’m leaving the house and want to wear a tank top, I got for one with thicker straps to hide my bra.
I’ve also seen bras that are intentially designed with pretty lace straps if you tend to let your straps peek out, though I haven’t tried one. Those are fine, but if I can tell when I’m seeing are bra straps, it bugs me.

It bother me, I just feel kinda trashy doing it. Why not just wear a strapless bra?
On a related note, I HATE those camis with the built-in “bra.” They provide no support and you can always see your nipples! What is the point of those??

Personally, I’d rather see someone’s bra straps than seeing them not wear a bra. That being said, I think it is incredibly tacky and garish to have a bright or whatever colour bra on with a tank top so your bra straps are blatently obvious…. (IE: There is NO REASON to wear a neon pink bra with a white tank top.) I think if your bra straps are going to show, make sure it’s a toned down colour, or something that’s not going to obviously stand out, and make it look like you’re trying to show off your bra….
Just my opinion.

I always wear spaghetti strap tanks in the summer. Usually I just wear a strapless bra, but sometimes I’ll wear a nude bra with straps. I figure a skin-toned bra is a little less obvious than a colored one. But in general, I just wear strapless.

Crap. I am a total faux pas. I LIVE in tank tops in the warmer months, but I always make sure my bra straps are pretty. Plus, I have scoliosis and my right shoulder blade sticks out a little further than my left, so there’s always a right strap hanging out, screaming “look at me! I’m a bra strap!”
Now I’m wondering if the world views me as trashy….
ETA: I never wear tanks to work, or any place where professional clothing is required. This is strictly casual or bummin clothing I’m talking about.

I don’t want to see your underwear.
I only wear tanks with thicker straps out of the house and still try to color coordinate just in case.

If I’m going to the supermarket or something then I dont really care, but other than that I use this clip to hold my bra straps to create more of a racerback style and this way they dont show.

Sigh…I wish I could find a strapless that felt like it was doing something for me other than sliding down around my waist every few seconds! I’d prefer to do it that way (strapless), but haven’t really had luck finding a strapless that works in my size (32DD).
Maybe I’ll just duct tape my boobs down next time I feel like wearing a tank top!!! 😛

I am right there with ya! No bra is not even an option for me, and well, strapless aren’t comfortable or supportive enough to wear with a tank top IMO.

I usually wear tank tops around the house, but that’s with no bra.
Do I care about it for myself? Yes. I don’t like it when my bra straps show when it can be prevented (tank tops or otherwise)–they make little plastic strap hiders for that. On other people, it depends on the situation. My cousin showed up to grandpa’s funeral in a tank top and a bra with teal straps…not appropriate at all. Working out, or if you’re under the age of 18, or wearing something strapless…also not appropriate. Otherwise, I probably wouldn’t notice on someone else unless something else that they were wearing/doing was drawing my attention.
Also, yes on those stupid built in shelf bra. Waste.

I’m so glad other people hate that stupid “shelf bra” contraption! The only thing it has ever done for me is get me tangled up when putting my top on…grrrr!
