@geeky_bee:  You don’t need to wait to be pregnant to have an end of life directive. Everyone should have one.

@julies1949:  Definitely true. I guess I meant more, everyone should have the opportunity to make pregnancy-specific directives. I have a general one, but nothing about what to do if I am pregnant because I had no idea there were laws that might override my general one (or my pregnancy-specific ones, for that matter!) in that scenario.

I was watching a re-run of Grey’s Anatomy and this very thing happened in the show, but it ended before an outcome was shown.

I’ve already talked to my Darling Husband about this and I would want to be kept alive to let my baby have a chance at life.

This is in the town I live in. My co worker is good friends with them. It is so heart breaking. Thankfully money was raised to help them.  Really makes you think of all the scenarios that could happen in life. Modern medicine is amazing sometimes it could have been two lost lives.

I can’t believe that the state I live in is one of the ones that disregards a woman’s right to refuse life-sustaining treatment if she has been “diagnosed with pregnancy.”  I knew about some of the states, but I didn’t know Washington was on that list.  Holy shit.

Thanks for the update. I second PP in that this case was very different… the woman was further along, the foetus was viable, and it’s what she and the family wanted. That makes a huge difference.

Oh my! What a sad story. I am glad to hear that the baby is okay. Still very sad though.

How did the brain hemmoraging just suddenly occur though? I hope it’s not too common in pregnant women.
