Omg, I’m getting my FIRST brazilian today. I’m so scared it’s not even funny. I’ve read many posts on WB about it to prepare myself. I should have done that yesterday, because I would’ve exfoliated last night.. but oh well. Advice says to:
–Take IB profen 30-60 minutes beforehand
–Relax… calm down
—Know it will hurt, no false expectations there
–Exfoliate a day or so later
I heard that you can drink wine beforehand. But for some reason I thought alcohol makes you MORE sensitive. That’s why you can’t be drunk when you get a tattoo right? Let me know because I’ll be ready with my wine about 30 minutes prior so I can bare the pain! I made the appointment yesterday, and you can’t cancel after 24 hours… so I’m going to get it done. It’s just a matter of calming myself down. I’m not really worried about the awwardness with the waxer, she does it everyday so it’s not like she’ll be surprised or anything.
Any other advice from the bees?

I would not have a glass of wine beforehand…but maybe after! 🙂 You’ll be fine–it’ll be painful, but the good news is it’ll be over fast! Maybe ask if she can use hard wax vs. cloth strips–hard wax seems to hurt less, in my experience. But really, it’ll be over before you know it!! Make sure you’re wearing loose-ish undies that you don’t care about, since they’ll get wax, baby powder, and oil on them, and loose pants for sure!!

I think alcohol thins your blood so you bleed more/more easily? Not sure though.
I read these wax posts and laugh. I honestly couldn’t ever put myself though any of this for a hair free nether region. All that for it to start growing back a few days later? You guys are WAY braver than me! lol
Good luck! I hope its painfree, quick and smooth sailing… (pun intended) 🙂

@Oneeleven: You’re correct! It thins your blood and makes you bleed more.
I’ve had my fair share of drunk accidents, and I usually don’t realize I’ve hurt myself till the morning after. HAHA.
ETA: I’ve only ever had that area waxed once. I realize there are good and bad experiences, and I’m willing to try again. The only advice I can give you is DO NOT let her use a wax roll on thingy. They are not as hygenic, they are more painful because the wax cools and your hair gets caught and pulled at, which only ADDS to the pain.
Make sure she uses the stick application, and the strip.

Try not to stress too much – it honestly isn’t that bad. I’ve been going every 4 weeks for 3 years now and I remember how freaked out I was the first time. It was no where near as bad as I was making it out to be in my head!

The pain is worth it!! Good luck! I usually dig my nails into my leg or arm to distract from the pain of my hair being ripped out and it helps a bit…

Agree with FutureKMM, its really not too bad. Just let the lady know to take it easy on you. If you have a good tech she’ll tell you to take a deep breath before the 2-3 bad ones. I only go to places that use hard wax, one time they used regular wax to clean up a couple spots and I wanted to murder the lady.
I find that pain meds make 0 difference.

@kperry3: OMG let us know how it goes. My waxing lady was telling me about and saying I ought to give it a try but i’m not brave enough.

@LGenz: What is hard wax?
@LGenz: I agree – I much prefer the hard wax. Although I couldn’t find anywhere in CA when I lived out there with reasonable prices who used hard wax so I went to somewhere with the strips for a while and got used to it. But I’m back to hard wax here in TX.
Hard wax cools and hardens on your body and they just pull off the dried wax (with the strips, they apply cloth over the liquid wax and rip off the cloth). The hard wax is supposed to stick and pull less on the skin which makes for less irritation.

@Mrs.KMM: Thanks! That actually sounds way more pleasant. I’m going to look for someone who uses that today!

@hilsy85: If she gives me a choice, I’ll choose hard wax. But because I’m new to this, and she does this everyday I would feel weird telling her what to do. Especially if she is not used to doing it a certain way. I don’t want to mess anything up, haha 🙂
I personally don’t mind going natural. It doesn’t bother me one bit. But I’m doing this for my Fiance… and hopefully by the wedding the process will be perfected and we can have fun on the honeymoon. We’ll see!
I’m hoping she uses the stick application as well. If she brings in the roller I’ll have to talk to her about hygiene. Ew.
Thanks for the responses everyone! For those of you that say it doesnt hurt as bad as you think… thanks for that… but I highly doubt it 🙂 I would rather overwork myself thinking it’s the most painful thing ever, then get there and it be a cakewalk, then think the other way around. Haha, whatever works to trick myself into calming down right?! 🙂
Does anyone have any moisturizers and/or exfoliaters they want to share with me? Maybe something I can buy at Target or a grocery store? I’m sure the salon has tons of things that I’ll probably buy.. but just wondering if there are any other things out there to use afterwards.

@kperry3: Yea, I was so inexperienced at the time, I just assumed that’s how it was done, not realizing until after telling all my friends and them giving me horrified looks. HAHA.
Also, I have a question that may help you as well, because I’m curious, is there a certain type of underwear, or even outfit that should be worn? Skirt and boy shorts? Are jeans uncomfotable?

@kperry3: oh and they will put this amazing mousturizer on you after she does it all…. it must have something numbing in it because it felt all better when the lady gave me that stuff!!! and this may sound weird…. but i just use my facial cleaner… clean and clear morning burst…. and i have never had an ingrown hair…. dont use it till like day one or 2 afterwards though… but yea! i think the sacylic acid works wonders down there….
