As long as you have music I think you will be OK. People arent really “doing anything” at most parties and they stick around to drink and chat.

Are you having alcohol? If you are that alone will keep people there after they eat.

@lefeymw:  i agree – have some kind of music going in the background (im partial to swing-y sinatra-type music at events like youre describing) and everyone will hang out and talk and mingle

Maybe hire live musicians/singers.

Would a photobooth go over well in your circle of friends/family?

We’re also having a brunch reception with no official dancing, but we’ve hired a jazz band to perform IF anyone wants to dance.  I was also thinking of hiring a cartoonist to draw characatures, or the photobooth idea too.

Can you tell us more about your wedding? What type of place are you having it at? Is it a hall or a restaurant etc… are you having a first dance or DJ at all? What are you serving for food? Maybe following breakfast you could do tea and coffee with some mini desserts? Are you doing a cake cutting or any other traditional wedding things?

I’m sure it will be wonderful…I LOVE breakfast 🙂

We did the same!

Our ceremony was at 10:10am, until 10:30ish then we ordered and ate until 12:15ish. Then we went to take pictures, and at 3:30pm we met some of the guests at a local bowling alley and played bowling in black light 🙂 It was lots of fun and more casual. It was the photographer’s idea to have me stay in my dress for some cool shots. Here’s me:

I’d just expect them to chat with each other.  They’re big boys and girls, they can sit through a party where there’s no dancing.
