Is this your first time breastfeeding? I know, silly question. But I ahve breastfed two babies and worked out a LOT of issues and problems and the stuff I had on hand for second time was a bit different. We also never covered up. Who cares! Unless you are shy but I am very “do not try to get me to move or hide when bf’d!”
-Breastfeeding pillow (wrap around but more the square kind). I had two c-sections unfortunately and these were a must.
-Some SOFT breastfeeding pads like “bamboo nursing pads”. My breasts were so irritated with clothing etc and these were sooo nice to put on top (mostly around the house)
-A pump but what worked much better was an electric plug in one. I had no real good luck
from my hand one unless it was for relief, not for pump and store.
-Good quality nursing bras. I got mine from Bella Materna. The material is wonderful and worth buying them
-Breastfeeding bags instead of storing milk in bottles . They should say they are good for freezing
-Nursing camis if you like. I’m too big booped to wear I find.
-I found nursing at night to be a pain if I didn’t wear either my good nursing jammies (LOVE them!) or a tank top. Yeah, little nightgowns and such won’t work.
– If you wear a tank and a little sweater or something…you can nurse by just pulling up your top, but the sweater hides your sides etc. People won’t see any boob if you aren’t covered.
-I found the second time around I wanted a couple nursing shirts (convenience) and pj’s (yup, good investment).
-My advice is don’t intro a bottle too soon or else babe will change way he nurses (ie/clamp down etc) . It tried and it causes his nursing to change and be more uncomfortable!
-Any questions, feel free to message me!
-Good luck. Google Jack Newman, Kellymom, Lalecheleague and read up A LOT beforehand. I wish I did the first child and I was surprised at how many things you need to learn (well, trial and error for us)…like tips for baby with a high arch, or tongue tie, or if you are on meds.
