I used both the spectra and the medela PISA (I bought this OOP though).  I preferred the PISA over the spectra but the spectra was fine.  I also had a ameda and I HATED it (why I bought the PISA OOP- and the spectra wasn’t out yet).

I seemed to get more milk out of the PISA.  I had the PISA with the tote and so it was way easier to take into work than the spectra

I’m due in 4 weeks and just received my Spectra S1 Plus. My work requires I be in the office and there is high frequency of travel. When I sent out an email asking this same question to the mom’s D-list at work, every single response was unanimous on the Spectra S1 Plus for our line of work (lots of travel, pumping in offices that share walls, easy to get replacement/extra parts)

I haven’t used it yet, but unanimous decision amongst 20+ women was enough to convince me to go with the Spectra without further research or investigation 🙂

I basically EP’d until 4 months, then nurses at home and pumped at work until 14 months. Loved my Spectra (as much as it’s possible to love a pump).

JiminyCricket :  I will recommend having the same brand for both pumps if you can get two. Dealing with pumps parts is annoying enough without worrying about having the wrong brand with you!

JiminyCricket :  I had forgotten about your follow up question re: the Medela. It just didn’t seem as efficient and I liked the various suction and level options better on the Spectra.

But, I only used the Medela at the hospital when my milk hadn’t really come in yet (it took 5 days), so it’s not the best comparison probably. I got the S2 based on advice from my October 2018 mama group – it was the overwhelming favorite there among previous mamas.

How’s everything going with your pregnancy btw? Wish I were still in the group 🙁  but hopefully soon. So glad you got your rainbow baby ❤️

JiminyCricket :  So I was actually pumping with my Medela Sonata as I was reading this! I really love it but don’t have too much to compare it to- haven’t tried any other brands on your list. I was leaning towards getting a Spectra before I found out that my insurance only covered Medelas. Pretty sure the Sonata has only been around for a couple of years so that’s why you probably haven’t gotten much feedback about it. It’s definitely quiet and I like the rechargeable aspect of it. The only downside is that if you want to use any other Medela pumps (I have a hand pump and a Swing just as backups) the pump parts aren’t the same.

I just went back to work last week. I had a PISA with my son and got a Spectra this time. I much prefer the spectra, only downside is it’s pretty large. I got a nice pump bag on amazon that it fits in, so that’s not really a dealbreaker for me.
