No I wouldn’t and with all the diseases you can transmit through breast milk I’d never let someone else breast feed my child!

There are programs where you can give away your pumped breastmilk, but I bet there are lots of tests and things to make sure the milk is safe. Even if you know the person, you can never guarantee that someone else’s breastmilk is completely safe. From the breastfeeder’s perspective, you would probably want to save your milk and bonding for your own baby.

MrsAKSkier:  I voted “sure, why not?” Assuming, of course, that I was confident that I didn’t have anything I could pass on to the baby, and that its parents were both comfortable with the idea. My child had donor breast milk (from a close friend) as a newborn for a couple of days because my milk wasn’t coming in (there were complications, it was only a day or two, tiny amounts because that’s all a newborn is taking in anyway) and I was grateful. Formula was not an option (allergies.)

I wouldn’t breastfeed directly.  I would pump and give to a friend’s baby, if absolutely needed.

I didn’t even like breastfeeding my own children. Hell no.

enmeek:  I think that makes the most sense to me. Pump and donate if they needed it and asked me to. I really couldn’t imagine latching someone else’s baby on to my breast though.

The concept absolutely disgusts me but whatever floats your boat, I guess. I would absolutely never breastfeed someone elses child or allow another set of tits to feed mine.

If it was a close friend, I wouldn’t even blink an eye. My son used milk from a milk bank while he was in the NCIU when he was born since my milk supply was nil to none.

A friend of mine fed her sister’s baby (I can’t remember the exact circumstances) but I think that’s less weird than feeding a friend’s baby!

I guess no one here ever heard of a wet nurse?

Fiance and his brother were breastfed by his aunt because his mom couldn’t do it. I don’t think its that weird. Depends on the situation.

I have a hard time understanding why breast milk from a healthy human woman disgusts some people, but formula made from milk from a cow (who walks around in its own poop) is A-OK. I’m not being snarky, I’m totally serious. It’s kind of funny to me.
