Have you worn a knife edge ring before? Either you like them or you hate them (comfort wear wise)…if I was picking I would go with the the BG tapered ring and have him do claw prongs.

I just finished my CAD  and it’s a mix of these two ring mashed together EXACTLY

Just no donut – as I want my rings to sit flush

Just commenting to follow because I’m trying to decide on a setting and these two are in my list as well! I’ve heard great things about both BGD and Eternity by Yoni. The Yoni setting is slightly cheaper if that’s an important factor for you.

One thing about the BGD setting is that someone said the tapered is almost too thin and they wish they had gotten the regular. I got some pictures directly from BGD comparing the two. The gold setting is the regular with a .75 stone, and the white gold is the tapered with a .5 stone not set just sitting in it. I haven’t decided which one I like better if I do decide to go with BGD.

I’m also considering the MWM sunburst (torchiere too but I think I prefer sunburst) and the Whiteflash contemporary solitaire (with the peg base rounded) http://www.whiteflash.com/engagement-rings/solitaire/contemporary-tiffany-style-solitaire-engagement-ring-1416.htm.

frogplus :  wow your post is just *so* helpful, thank you! I’ve been wondering how a .75 carat would look in the BGD setting because the only ones I’ve seen were over a carat.

For anyone else considering the Eternity by Yoni setting, it does say in the description that you can request modifications for the same price, so that’s something I’m considering (i.e. asking for tapered setting and smaller donut).

frogplus :  Hello, do you happen to know the size of the head of the white gold Brian Gavin tapered ring? I love it but would love to know the carat size it holds is possible. Thanks!

kenna2 :  The one in the picture has a half carat stone resting in it, but the ring can be made for any size I think. This is what the website says: “Classic Style 6 prong solitaire with 2mm half round band tapering to 1.8mm at the top. Price is for setting only for diamonds up to 2 carats. Add $100 for diamonds larger than 2 carats”
