Hey NYC brides!
I recently purchased my dream dress at Vows Bridal Outlet in Massachusetts (you know the one from the TLC show “I Found the Gown”?) for my late-May small wedding in Paris. However, the dress does need some alterations and a little bit of repair in the back which the shop is willing to take care of if I use their seamstress. But, that would mean taking the more than 4 hour ride up there at least 2-3 times before May which is difficult to do considering how busy my schedule is.
So, I am wondering if anyone has any great recomendations for local alterations? THe dress is VERY delicate and fine lace and chiffon. I am reluctant to just choose someone based on Yelp reviews so personal recommendations and especially pictures would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks so much!

Bump! I’m also looking for a tailor. Got my dress at db but worried about their costs. I’ve never taken anything to be tailored so not sure where to start. Anywhere in Manhattan or brooklyn would be best!

I took my dress to Susan at The Wedding Dresser (in Brooklyn). My dress was a pretty complicated alteration because of its construcion, the fabric, and taking it from a sample size to a petite size, but she had no issues whatsoever and my dress turned out perfect.

Hi, I make custom wedding gowns and sell them online. I had one of my brides take a proof that I made of her gown to Susan to have it fitted. She did a fantastic job of fitting the proof. Since then, I have referred another bride to her to have a bridesmaid dress fitted. (I live near Pittsburgh and was unable to help the NY bride) The bridesmaid and bride were very happy with the finished product and the price. You may want to check her out. She knows what she is doing!

I used Ellen’s Couture on the Upper West Side to alter my designer gown. Completely worth it!

I’ve heard great things about Ann Hamilton and Amanda Madden. I haven’t gone in for a consultation yet but I am learning towards Amanda since she is closest to me 🙂 and she’s been quite responsive to emails 🙂
They both have great reviews on Yelp and I’ve seen their names float around on here 🙂
