Okay, so I will give you my honest opinion and will stick to the facts regarding the shops that I visited which are the following; 1. Carrillo’s Wedding Emprium 2. Suzanne’s Bridal 3. Azteca 4.I do I do and 5. Az Bridal Warehouse. Furthermore, I believe it is really important to keep an open mind and chose your battles wisely. I will explain in a bit.

1. CARILLOS WEDDING EMPORIUM:

LIKES

Curteous staff, great reputation, price ranges were between  300-1,200, they carry some known designers such as mori lee, maggie sottero, etc., you can take pictures, only two employees (which I guess can also be a bad thing) and they don’t hide the designer/style.

Dislikes

Limited selection due to their small space, therefore small sale rack, they seem to carry “smaller” sizes such as 4,6, and 8, most of their dresses look-a-like in style, they didn’t have many ivory gowns which is what I was looking for and I didn’t find ANY mermaid style gown.

2. SUZANNE’S BRIDAL

LIKES

Curteous staff, great reputation/reviews, they do alterations, Suzanne herself is usually there and is Extremely approachable AND she does the alterations. If i had to take a guess, I would say that a good 80 percent of their gowns are strapless. Prices range between 400-1,500. You can take pictures, they don’t hide designers/tags. Walk-ins are welcomed. I found my halter top mermaid style gown here for 750.00!!!

DISLIKES

Had a little bit of trouble finding them and their bulding looks a bit dated. Then again, I was there to buy a dress not the building! Yes, that’s it!!!

3. AZTECA- this is where I had to choose one of my many battles!

LIKES

Huge selection, huge clearance rack, prices range between 100.00 (on clearance) to 2,000 and they do alterations. When yu do ask, the employees can direct you to what your looking for. I believe that they are underpaid and overworked- this might be the reason why they know where every dress is! Walk-ins are welcomed! Also, this is where I met a gal who told me about weddingbee!!!

DISLIKES

Old building with fitting room doors which consist of red curtains that leave your fanny exposed because they aren’t wide enough to reach the end of fitting room, nor do they clip to ensure they are closed. Alterations are very expensive, I have been there a total of two times for seven hours combined and never did I come a cross a fluent english speaking employee. Fortunately, I speak spanish! You have to carry your own gowns which can get very expensive, Men are not allowed upstairs which is where all the wedding gowns are and you are not allowed to come down stairs! No pictures allowed! I only found 4 mermaid gowns.

I CAN SEE WHY THERE ARE MANY NEGATIVE REVIEWS ABOUT THIS PLACE, HOWEVER I DIDN’T LET THOSE THINGS BOTHER ME FOR THE SIMPLE REASON THAT I WAS ONLY THERE TO BUY A DRESS. I ACTUALLY ENJOYED THE FACT THAT THEY WEREN’T PRESSURING ME TO BUY A DRESS (I DON’T THINK THEY EVEN NOTICED ME LOL), THEY LEFT ME ALONE TO SHOP WHICH CAN BE SEEN BY OTHERS AS RUDE ON THEIR END, I STRETCHED THAT RED CURTAIN AS MUCH AS I COULD AND USED MY HAIR CLIP TO CLIP IT! I TRY NOT TO SEE AZTECA AS HAVING RUDE CUSTOMER SERVICES, BUT LACKTHEREOF. MAYBE ITS BECAUSE I ALREADY KNEW WHAT I WANTED, HAD DONE ENOUGH RESEARCH, WAS STICKING TO MY BUDGET AND AM PRETTY INDEPENDENT- AS FAR AS NOT HAVING THE NEED/DESIRE TO TAKE SOMEONE WITH ME. LASTLY, I AM NOT WEALTHY BY ANY MEANS AND I LOVE GREAT DEALS; SO IF THIS IS WHAT I HAD TO PUT UP WITH TO GET A 1,500 DRESS FOR 500-600 ON SALE, I WILL TAKE IT!!!

I DO I DO!

LIKES

Large selection, I found many mermaid gowns here, dresses are sorted by design/style and they will help you carry your gowns.

DISLIKES

No pictures, they don’t do alterations, they hide designer/style, don’t accept walk-ins, even though the employees are curteous and beautiful, they look like they’re 18 with very little “wedding gown” knowledge. They focus too much on budget-and try to make you go over. They will repeatedly show you dresses that are not consistent with what you have expressed. Price ranges are between 500-2,000+ They seem to be very judgemental based on your e-ring, budget, attire, etc.

AZ BRIDAL WAREHOUSE

LIKES

Decent selection, they do alterations, they have a catalogue which u can request online and it includes all of their selections, walk-ins are welcomed and their staff is polite. Gowns are sorted by size.

DISLIKES

They don’t carry designer gowns. All of their gowns are designed by them, yet their prices are considerably high. Eve though the staff is polite, they are unprofessional, they share “personal’ issues with one another, use their cell phones, they will leave you alone at times and you have to find them in their lounge area while they’re munching on something or talking to other employees. You have to carry your gowns and they will only direct you to the rack that has your size and then disappear until you are ready to use the fitting rooms.

Hope this helps!!!

I know this thread is a bit old, but it has been super helpful to me! I read bad things other places about Azteca and I Do I Do, so I think that I’ll just go ahead and avoid them. I’d never heard about Suzanne’s, but I’ll def be stopping there.

I wanted up update since my last post on finding a dress.  I made an appointment back in April at Almond Tree.  Although, it was hard for me to find, I would have to say that this place was an all around great place to find a dress.  The two owners are named Pam and I (and my family) were the only ones in the store.  Pam showed me the area of dresses that would fit me and then would take the dresses and put them on a bar for me.  Then, they helped me in and out of the dresses as well.  I ended up buying my dress there and I can’t wait until my wedding date gets closer and I can get my alterations done…I only need my hemline done, the dress fit me perfectly.  Almond Tree does have a person that comes in for alterations in the evenings and I was able to have them hold my dress for me until my wedding day gets closer.  I live with my Fiance and didn’t want him to see my dress.  So, if you live in Northwest Phoenix, I would definitely schedule an appointment with Pam at Almond Tree.  They were great to work with and I didn’t feel pressured by them at all.

I ultimately bought my dress from Azteca, althought NOT the ideal bridal shopping experience they had a gorgeous gown I chose and had a huge selection in all price ranges. I have to say if Priscilla of Boston is in your price range, do yourself a favor and go there. Amazing shop, very helpful sales ladies and Gorgeous gown! I went here AFTER I ordered my gown from Azteca. My dress is a Demetrios and it was priced about $600 less than at the Demetrio’s of Scottsdale boutique.

Does anyone know of any dress shops (anywhere in the Phoenix-Tempe-Gilbert-Mesa-Chandler area) where you can actually purchase the dress and take it home with you the same day?  My wedding is in a couple months and I would need to take a dress home as opposed to ordering one.

@Allie123:

All gown shops I listed above in my review, have gowns you can purchase “off the rack.”  I purchased mine off the rack at suzanne’s.

@Allie123

I was able to take my dress home with me from my post above.  I choose to have them hold it for me there, but you are free to purchase and take home with you there.

I ended up buying my dress from Azteca, but I was in the same mindset of Hanna, in that I really was just there to buy a dress….the girl helping me was there when I needed her, but there was no pressure at all. I liked that.

I also had an appointment at Almond Tree. They didn’t have the perfect dress for me but what a great find! Definitely check it out.

I left Az Bridal Warehouse without finding anything to try on. Frankly, the person who was supposed to be helping me basically blew me off when she realized I didn’t have a high end budget.

I also looked at Carillos. They had a suprisingly good selection for such a small shop.

@allie123, at Azteca if you purchase off the rack you can take it home the same day. Also, Group USA in Arizona Mills has some nice gowns and everything is off the rack.

@AzinAugust:

if you are in the West Valley, be sure to check out Molina Bridal. I got my maggie there, and it was in a style I would have never thought of.. the gals there are great.

Prices are MSRP.

I had a good experience at I do I do and they have a decent plus size selection!  but Azteca was TERRIBLE!  i went in there and then the woman that was “helping me” barely spoke any english… wouldn’t work with me or help me find anything.  IT was terrible!!!!

I am a plus size bride, so STRUT worked out pretty good, i went there this last week.  Pictures are allowed.  Its in phoenix.  I am wondering if Arizona’s Bridal Warehouse has a Plus size selection?  Does anyone know?  Also I like the Mary’s does anyone know where I can try on plus size designs?

i have been to

I do I do, Group USA, Azteca, Davids Bridal, and Strut (specializing in 12+).  I sitll have alot of shopping to do, my VR isn’t for 2 years, but I am not settling and that is why I am starting shopping so early.

any suggestions will be helpful.

I’m hittin up La Bella Bridal on Friday because they have my Dream Dress! woohoo Julietta (by Mori Lee) 3091.  Soooo Excited.  I hope the dress meets/exceeds my expectations.  This will be my 6th Salon.  OH wait! nope!!!  7th.  I also went to Brilliant Bridal.  I actually put money down on a dress, just to be able to think about it, because its a consignment shop, so once its gone, its gone.  I decided thats not the dress for me, so bye bye money, but it was worth it if I would have decided this is the dress for me.  I imagine I will be going there again as I continue my search:)
