I need some advice. How do you shop for bridal jewelry especially if most of the places you’d try and buy don’t have an easy return policy?
Do you bring your dress to the stores? I shopped and bought a $30 pearl necklace from David’s Bridal. However, I’m reconsidering. I know I can’t return it for a refund. Alot of bridal shops seem to have that policy as well.
I’ve seen folks recommending Etsy. Likewise, I know you can’t return something if you’re just trying it on (not defective, incorrect order etc).
It just seems really expensive to buy $50+ jewelry and cross your fingers and hopes that it works with your outfit.
Just for reference, I’ve included a snapshot of my dress and some of the accessories I’m considering from Etsy.

I’ve returned/exchanged items to Etsy sellers before, it all depends on the policy of the seller. Something like jewelry should be cheap to return too, I just sent a couple of things back domestically for $2-$3 in postage (slightly slower but still with tracking).
Some eBay sellers will let you return without a hassle too. Might be worth looking into? Amazon is also really good with returns.

@Arrowchan: Thanks! I just double-checked and saw that some of the Etsy stores do have a return policy.
So question to folks — how many accessories did you try out before settling on the ones you ultimately kept/bought?

try places like Charming Charlies and Icing for accessories, you can return there.
Also, Nordstrom has a fabulous return policy

I only shopped at places with really easy return policies
BHLDN (although you do have to pay the initial shipping to your home)

@dearlydevoted: If DB let me exchange my dress before my wedding date, they should let you exchange your necklace for another one of equal or higher value. Your dress is beautiful. I would do long earrings and a bracelet. No necklace.

I ordered off etsy, I just found what I liked and bought it. It arrived and I loved it even more in person.
For your dress, I would get something that was thin or close to my neck, since there isn’t a lot of open chest area at the top of your dress.

I would not wear a necklace with that dress.

I also ordered off of Etsy and loved what I got. I didn’t try anything else on, except I brought a couple necklaces (that weren’t wedding-ish at all) to the store and tried them on with my dress, it was just to determine what length looked best with my dress. Then I ordered something off of Etsy and they customized the length for me. I don’t think I would do a really big necklace with your dress, since the neckline is on the higher side. If you wanted something bigger, maybe statement earrings would look nice and then a simple necklace?

@gelaine22: I agree. I was sure I had to wear a necklace (I even bought and returned 3 of them) now I feel less is more and I just have some really pretty earrings!
