I have seen a few “picking your bridal party” posts but nothing recently and nothing that really matches my scenerio.
Other than my Fiance, I don’t have a best friend. I have several good girlfriends who I see periodically, but no best friend. In high school and early in college, I had 3 girlfriends who were great but we’ve slowly started to drift because we live in different states.
I also have a couple good girlfriends here in NYC. Not best friends (they both have best friends in the city before I moved here), but they are good gals who I hang out with once or twice a month and who know both me and Fiance really well.
My Fiance is pretty sure he only wants 3 guys, though. His best friend here, his best friend from childhood, and my brother (he’s my own sibling, no sisters unfortunately). He has a couple other good friends here too.
We’ve been going back and forth on our wedding party and also on whether or not to have a Maid/Matron of Honor and Bridesmaid or Best Man or just have “honor attendants.” At this point, I am going with 2 girlfriends from high school (one of the gals is pretty poor and I feel bad about giving her the expenses of being a bridesmaid) and one gal from NYC, and then FI’s 3 guys. None of the girls though are really BEST FRIENDS of mine right now, they are just good girlfriends. Perfectly acceptable bridesmaids. My Fiance wants to have a best man, though.
I’m worried that I’m putting too much pressure on my NYC friend by naming her Maid/Matron of Honor. She’s great, she’s been an Maid/Matron of Honor before, but she’s definitely not my “best friend”. How do you know if you’re ready to make that next step? the only thing else I can think of is to not have an Maid/Matron of Honor. Am I making a big deal out of nothing? Or should I not have a MOH?
