I think wherever is most convenient! You don’t want to do a ton of driving around after the ceremony and be late to cocktail hour/the reception, trust me!!
To be honest, I didn’t want to take photos in front of any buildings in downtown Houston because I think they will end up looking super dated in the future. Architectural styles change a lot. And we were having more of a vintage-inspired wedding, so that wouldn’t have made sense.
Maybe what will help you narrow down the options is to look at your photographer’s blog and see some of the locations where they’ve taken wedding party photos for other weddings – you might fall in love with one of the locations, and that may help you decide! Or you may realize that you prefer natural/outdoorsy vs. indoor hotel or building, or that you prefer having benches/props (like you would find in a park), you nme it!
We held our ceremony and reception at the same location – outdoors on the property of an old bed & breakfast – and we took wedding party photos under a huge old oak tree. I love how they came out – here’s a couple of them:
We did our bridal party photos in the gardens of our venue because I was really not interested in dealing with the hassles of travel, the potential for a vehicle breakdown/accident/traffic/whatever. Seriously, I was in no mood to tempt fate.
I live in a town where beach photos are REALLY overdone. They all seem to look like there’s people in the background, windy, messy, etc.
We did ours outside a nice architectural building (but we got married in the winter so were limited with some of the options you post.)
Whatever suits your fancy! What kind of place are you getting married? I suggest to go for a location or two that showcase the beauty of the town/city/country you are getting married at.
We got married in a winery in the beautiful city of sails in New Zealand. I guess we were lucky to have photos taken in the vines, at the pier, on an empty road in what looks like a countryside. We had everything within 5 mins drive.
I think it really depends on the logistics of the day and what is around you. We had a cold gloomyish afternoon so after our outdoor snowy shots we went inside a building at a local Arts Centre. It gave us shelter from the elements and all the windows helped with the lighting. I am glad we did as we needed it after the outside ceremony and chairlift ride. 😉

We also had pics taken on the terrace after the wedding ceremeony, in the hotel lobby, and at a ski hill. It was all close and we just used what was around us.
